Tangled Morning

Chapter 15 by sexycooldude

The light was soft at the edges of the curtains. It was still early. Alex lay on his back with Mia curled tight against his side. Her head rested on his shoulder. One bare leg was hooked over his thigh. Her arm lay across his chest. Every place their skin touched felt warm and real.

He could not stop thinking. She had said it. Right when her body tightened around him the second time. The words had slipped out between her breaths. “I love you.” And he had said it back before he could stop himself. Now those words sat in the quiet room with them. Heavy. New.

Alex stared at the ceiling. His body felt heavy and good from everything they had done. But his mind would not rest. He had never been this close to anyone. Never felt someone want him like that. The sex had been slow and careful. Both of them learning. Both of them shaking a little. It had meant more because of how long they had waited. But now the waiting was over. And that scared him in a different way.

What if she woke up and changed her mind? What if the words had only come out because she was lost in it? Alex swallowed. His chest felt tight. He wanted to believe her. God, he wanted to. But the old doubts were still there. Loud in his head.

Mia shifted. Her fingers moved slow across his skin. Just light touches near his collarbone. She lifted her head a little. Her hair was messy. She looked at him with sleepy eyes.

“Hey,” she said. Her voice was soft.

“Hey,” he answered.

She smiled that small smile. The one that made his stomach flip. Then she leaned in and pressed her lips to the side of his neck. Just a gentle kiss. Warm. She stayed there for a second before settling back down. Her leg stayed over his. She did not pull away.

Alex let out a slow breath. His hand found her back. He rubbed slow circles there. Her skin was smooth under his palm. He could feel the dip of her waist. The way she fit against him like she belonged there. His body reacted to the closeness. Heat started low in his belly again. He tried to ignore it. They had already gone through so much tonight. He did not want to seem like he only wanted more now.

But she felt so good. Soft and warm and real.

Mia’s fingers kept moving. Down his chest now. Light and slow. She traced little lines like she was still half asleep but wanted to stay connected. She kissed his shoulder. Another soft press of her lips.

“I like this,” she whispered. “Being here with you like this.”

Alex turned his head to look at her. In the growing light he could see her face clearly. The faint blush on her cheeks. The way her eyes stayed on him. Not looking away. Not pulling back.

“Me too,” he said. The words came out quiet.

She reached up and touched his face. Her thumb brushed his cheek. Gentle. Like she was making sure he was really there. Then she laced her fingers with his free hand. She squeezed once. Small and sure.

They stayed like that. No big talk. Just the quiet and the closeness. Alex could feel her breathing against his side. Slow and steady. His own heart was beating faster than it should. He kept waiting for the moment to break. For her to sit up and say it had been a mistake. But she did not. She stayed pressed close. Her leg hooked over his. Her hand in his.

Alex closed his eyes for a second. He was frustrated with himself. Why could he not just let this be good? Why did his brain have to pick at every little thing? She had said she loved him. She had meant it enough to say it out loud when she came. And she was still here. Still touching him like she wanted to keep feeling him.

The long wait had made everything bigger. Every look. Every small touch over the last weeks. The kiss on her doorstep. The late study nights. All of it had built to this. And now that it had happened, he did not know how to move without breaking something.

Mia sighed soft against his skin. She sounded happy. Content. Her fingers squeezed his again.

Alex opened his eyes and looked at her. She was drifting again. Her breathing was getting slower. She was falling back asleep. Still tangled with him. Still warm and trusting.

He stayed awake a little longer. Watching the light get brighter on the ceiling. Feeling her body against his. The doubts were still there. They probably would be for a while. But right now she was here. Naked and close and choosing to stay. That had to mean something.

He turned his head and pressed a slow kiss to her hair. She did not wake. She just snuggled closer in her sleep.

Alex let his eyes close. His arm stayed around her. His hand stayed laced with hers. The morning was quiet. The room was warm. And for the first time in a long time, the wanting did not feel one-sided. It felt shared. Even if he still did not know exactly what came next.

He would figure it out. They would figure it out. Together. One small moment at a time. Just like they had from the start.

The light kept growing. Mia stayed curled against him. Alex held her a little tighter. And for now, that was enough.
