Talk with Michelle

Michelle glances at you, sipping from her coffee.

“I heard the news,” she says. “Some kind of bet that was.”

“Yeah,” you say, shaking your head in disbelief. “Still can’t really believe that Jack did that.”

“I’m surprised that you turned him down,” she says.

“There are plenty of lines that I won’t cross. That was one of them,” you say.

“Many guys wouldn’t have made the same decision as you,” the green-eyed beauty says. “You did the right thing. I found it… noble.”

“They call me Knight for a reason,” you quip, and she laughs.

“Then maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised,” she says. “Still. It’s hard to forget all those guys that chased me when the Thetas announced their game.”

“What game?” you say, frowning. “The… the strip beer pong thing?”

“No, the other one. The big one,” she says.

You give her a blank look, confused.

“You haven’t heard?”

You shake your head, saying: “Now I’m really lost. What’s the big game?”

Michelle’s eyes widen a fraction, saying: “You really don’t know?” She pauses, gathering her thoughts, before continuing. “I’m surprised you haven’t heard. It was the biggest news on campus for a while. But it was also before your time. It happened soon after I rushed Theta. I said back then that I wouldn’t sleep with any guys. Nobody believed me. But after a semester, after all the other sisters had gotten plenty, it became clear that I was serious.”

“Seems like you’re still serious about it,” you say, and she smiles.

“Very serious,” she says. “The other Thetas, they teased me and they tested me, but at some point, they realized just how serious I was about it. We were talking late one night when Imogen came up with something. She thought it would be hilarious, and all the other girls agreed. The idea was, they would put out a challenge. If any guy managed to sleep with me, then they would all fuck him, too. They knew I wasn’t going to put out, and they wanted to watch all the stupid things guys would try to seduce me.”

“That must have been fun to watch,” you smile. “But I don’t see armies of guys throwing themselves at you. You’d think, the prospect of doing all you sisters…”

“Oh, they came thick and fast at first,” Michelle says. “They just never got anywhere close to me. I turned them all down. But you guys have thick skulls. It takes a while for the message to really settle in. Some big guys humiliated themselves thoroughly trying to get to me. Eventually, people learned the lesson.”

“So no guy ever succeeded, huh,” you say. “The story just ends like that.”

Michelle nods, and then smiles at you, the ghost of something glimmering in her eyes.

“Technically speaking, no. That game is still on,” she says. “So if somebody were to sleep with me, then…”

“Wow,” you say, your eyes widening. “Oh, wow.”

“What, does that intrigue you?” she smiles.

“In a weird, roundabout way,” you say. “It doesn’t really change how I think about you.”

“Is that right?”

“Yeah, for sure,” you laugh. “I know that if we ever went there, the biggest achievement by far would be getting you to trust me like that. Everything else is just chump change.”

“You’re a funny one,” she says, giving you another intense look.

But somehow, it’s got a streak of warmth to it. Just a little bit of heat to get your hopes up.
