Chapter 18 by tk420 tk420

What would you like to do?

Talk to Grillby.

You decide to walk over to the orange flame person. After getting a bit closer he seems to notice you, putting the rag away under the counter and wiping his hands clean. Clean of what, you aren't sure, but you continue approaching him anyway. When you get up to the counter the flame person seems to notice you, so he nods his head in acknowledgement, before pointing to something on his shirt. You lean in a bit closer to see what he is pointing at, and realize that it's a nametag. The nametag says, "Grillby," so his name must be Grillby. The nametag also says that he is the owner. You nod your own head in acknowledgement, and tell Grillby that your name is Vessel. If he has an opinion of your name, Grillby's lack of facial features make it very hard to tell.

Just as the silence between the two of you is starting to get really awkward, you notice a hiring sign leaning against the wall behind Grillby. Seeing as you don't have any money right now, you figure this could be the perfect opportunity to earn some cash. You point out the sign to Grillby and ask if he is still looking for someone to hire. Grillby looks between you and the sign for a moment, then walks through the fire door. Since no alarms go off, you assume that fire door is meant for him, and wait at the pub for a bit. There isn't much else to do with the bartender gone, aside from watching the other patrons. There's not that many, sequestered in groups of ones or twos, either taking sips of their drinks or chatting with one another. Eventually, Grillby comes back with a pen and a piece of paper. Grillby sets down the two objects in front of you and then crosses his arms as he waits nearby. The piece of paper, as it turns out, is a job application. It isn't a very long job application, so you make sure to take the time and actually read it before signing anything for once.

From what you're reading on the application, you'll be paid 200 G for just a few hours of work, but the hours are extremely flexible. So flexible, in fact, that you could basically work whenever you feel like it. As long as you show up every now and then, you don't even need to go to the pub every day. Just before you take the pen and sign, you start to wonder how you might convince Grillby to make this deal even better.

What do you say?
