Talk and transformation

The following morning, you and Ruka follow Daigo out of town. The dryad smiles as she holds your hand. “I know it’s an important journey, but it’s nice to spend some time together, Josh.”

You smile back at her. “I agree. I’m glad you’re with me, although I do wonder why they need you there.”

Ruka shrugs. “I’m a native, and a dryad. I imagine they wonder why I left. Hopefully this time we can convince them to help.”

You nod. “Indeed. I understand them not wanting to be involved in what was essentially a human war, but the demon lord threatens everyone. Just the fact that we have to meet with them frustrates me.”

Ruka nods, her green eyes growing sad. “I felt the same, as my sisters and I dealt with raids and invasions. Where was Koras when we were being killed? As the forest god, we were under his protection. And now I’m alone. Or I was…”

She looks at you, smiling. “Now I have a new family, one that protects each other.”

You smile, giving her a kiss. “And we always will. And now we have a chance to get you some answers.”

Now that you’re clear of the city, Daigo interrupts. “I hate to stop your bonding, but I think I can change here. You should step back.”

You and Ruka back up, giving him space. He begins glowing, and the glow spreads, flaring into a blinding flash. When your vision clears, you see Daigo in his true form.

If you had to guess, the dragon is at least one hundred feet long, including his tail. He has four powerful legs, a pair of massive wings, and is covered in thick, mottled black and brown scales. Daigo turns his huge head towards you and speaks, displaying teeth the size of your forearm. “Climb on, in front of my wings please.”

He lies down to ease your climb, and ones you’re settled with Ruka hugging you tightly from behind, he nods. “Miss Ruka, you should tie yourselves with vines, to ensure your safety.”

Ruka nods, and holds out her hand. Vines rapidly grow up around his chest and gently wrap around you two, binding you securely to the dragon’s back. With a satisfied nod, Daigo chuckles. “Hold on!”

With a push from his powerful legs, he leaps into the air. Soon, you’re soaring high above the ground. Ruka giggles behind you. “This is amazing!”
