Take cover

Going to one knee, grant aimed his pistol with a steady grip at the door, and waited. Whatever was out there, it wasn't human, and that made it the enemy. Besides after his encounter with the porn star like dead girl, he wasn't taking any chances.

Suddenly an obese zombie lumbered around the corner, its eyes cast down at the dead that littered the ground. It was quite possibly one the ugliest things Grant had ever seen.

Without hesitation the old war dog sighted the beasts head, and began pulling the trigger. The first shot took it through the left eye, a sure fire kill shot on any normal zombie. The second shot, took it between the eyes, as its body inexplicable bulged. As the soldier pulled the trigger a third time, the creature exploded, green goop mixed with blood and flesh spraying the walls.

Grant stayed crouched listening for another horde, but heard nothing. One shot might have been enough, but two head shots definitely sealed its fate. Three more bullets lost, he was now down to eleven.

Standing he moved forward, grabbing a Cosmo magazine from the counter, and he dropped it on the green goop. Nothing happened, whatever it was it wasn't harmful to non living matter. He wasn't going to touch it him self, so that was enough for him.

Going back into the bedroom he grabbed a blanket and threw it on the majority of the mess. Grabbing his backpack, and shouldering his rifle, he picked his way over the dead and out into the hall.

Heading down the stairs, he reached the second floor, and found the door shattered. When the horde heard the shots, they must have been milling her on this floor, and broke through in their attempt to get to him.

Continuing down he began considering his next option. As soon as he got out of this building, he was going to have to head for that hospital. But did he brave the open streets, or pick his way through the dark alleys. Either way this was going to be unpleasant But then he was getting use to that now.
