Chapter 5

What happened next?
Tackled!
In a flash a large shape launched itself from the corner. Jane had no time to react as the immense weight hit her square in the chest. The woman was knocked cleanly off her feet and cried out as pain blossomed from where she hit her skull on the paving stones.
The dim phosphorescent light of the catacombs did little to inform Jane of her predicament. A large shape loomed over her in the darkness, blacker than night. The young woman tried to swing her blade at her attacker, only to find that her sword arm would not move. She tried to kick at the monster, but her legs were weighed down by its bulk. She could not move.
Hot, moist breath puffed at her from the shape. It smelled like old gym socks and bile. Jane managed to suppress the urge to retch at the odor. Something warm and thick dripped onto Jane's face. She found that her off hand was still free and wiped at the substance, smearing the sticky mucus across her cheek. She wanted to vomit, but she knew that she had mere moments to react before she would be completely at the monster's mercy.
Did Jane manage to fight back?
