Chapter 3
by Danzash
Nice, nice, all good, but how did you die?
Suspension into head
Recalling exactly how you passed is... honestly a little morbid, but then again you're already dead, so who cares?
You push past some unimportant memories, such as doing menial labor in off days, or the times where you were working on the car and tuning it, briefly glancing at a few important, but not majorly impactful events, and skimming past a few of the highs in your life.
Highs, such as winning the World Driver's Championship in only your second season of Formula 1, being signed on with the newly formed Lamborghini works team and winning the South African GP with a massive 20 second lead.
Pushing forward a little bit more into your mind's eye, information about the day of your **** slowly trickled in.
It was your 13th season into F1, with some experience under the belt, on lap 32 of the Italian GP when your rear left tire suffered an unexpected blowout on the start/finish straightaway.
The tires, which were previously developed by Pirelli and was only replaced by Bridgestone two seasons ago, were already showing signs of unusual strain also on the other cars, all the way back to the first practice session, and even resulted in 3 cars spinning on the same corner on the same lap. An investigation came through, including setting up the suspension differently, different aerodynamics, but they made little to no impact on the wear.
When your car spun, it hit the barrier at around 178 mph, shattered the rear end so hard that the engine's turbochargers flew off (narrowly missing the head of the driver who was 2 seconds behind you), then the front end came around and hit the grandstands at 126 mph. You recall seeing a black piece of metal come off the front left end of the car towards your face, but then moments later is darkness once more.
You stop trying to remember things and you return to your floating, stateless... state.
And immediately, the headache kicks in. You fail to formulate any sort of thought for what felt like hours, your 'head' throbbing painfully. You were sure that if you still had a physical body, it would be on the floor writhing in pain.
Eventually, thankfully, the pain subsides. Thoughts come back into your mind, mostly expletives and swearing for the first few minutes, but you calm down after a while.
It's silence again. Nothing happens... no big threatening god to smite you for your sins or a demon to tempt you with it into Hell... it's just you and loneliness. You use this time to reminisce on your journey, how you stayed up overnight with the mechanics to perfect the car for the track, how your best friend slowly turned into your arch-nemesis as you both fought for the world title...
Eventually you hear a little bit of noise. You're not really sure how to describe it, it's just... a whole bunch of noise. The kind that your brain filters out when you're focusing on something.
It gets a little louder after around half a minute. One minute and things start to clear up a little. It seems to be voices. Not the schizophrenic kind that tells you to get high, streak and dice your wrists with a kitchen knife. No, this voice... or voices? It sounds frantic, a little bit.
The volume gets louder and louder, the one voice turns into two, turns into three, there seems to be the sound of footsteps everywhere, it's getting almost too loud now, for a moment you swear you could hear someone picking up your head, the darkness slowly begins to change to a blinding white until you find yourself moving your nonexistent hands to your nonexistent face, you squint your eyes even though you know it has no effect, and then... it all stops.
The white transitions back to the black that it was before, but now... you feel something.
On your back. On your hands, legs, feet, arms, everywhere. You realize... you have a physical body again.
You open your eyes.
Where do you find yourself?

Not in Kansas
Alone, transported to an unfamiliar world after . Where do we go from here?
You, whoever you are, were just going about your day or life doing whatever it is that you normally do. Perhaps you do it better than everyone else, perhaps it's worse than everyone else. Maybe your thing is normal, or it's some crazy shit that no normal person would sign up for. Either way, one day you end up being in an accident that kills you, except instead of arriving at some sort of purgatory or a Heaven/Hell of some sort, you end up travelling somewhere that is very far, and very different.
