The certainty that walking into the town is a mistake becomes clear as you hit the one hundred yard mark, figuratively, from the town. A rather large demon teleports right behind you and tries to snatch you up in his claws. A diving roll forward saves you but only for an instant, he is after you with ferocious clawing strikes at you limbs trying thus far just to get hold of you. “Knock it off!” You yell at him as your legs again propel you just out of its grasp.

“Succulent human meat.” He hisses like a snake. Swinging his spiked tail like a club that you are **** to block with the rifle. When you do his flesh smolders and he leaps away instinctively due to the pain, “Silver.” He hisses.

This gives you an opening finally, you level the rifle and fire. The silver round cuts a path through the creature. He howls in pain but realizes distance is his enemy and charges you. Boom, boom, boom, boom. You rack and fire as fast as your fingers will allow. The fifth shot rips through the monsters head and it slides to a halt. A moment later the beast turns black, makes a hissing noise, then sort of pops into a heap of goo that then melts into the rocky ground. You catch a glint of something metal. Fishing it out you discover it is a small statue of a fish and it is rather heavy. “I think this is solid gold. What did he do, eat it?”

Turning around as you hear footsteps you shoulder the rifle, cursing yourself for not reloading. It is two men or beasts in heavy armor with visors over their faces. “Wait, don't shoot.” One says, when you lower the barrel he adds, “Town guard ma'am, we saw the whole fight. Sorry we didn't help, but town rules we don't fight demons outside of the city walls.”

“You're human?”

“Actually no, I'm an elf, and my friend here is a cambion, half demon, but you are welcome to come in to our ladies city. This is an outpost against the hordes of the abyss.”

“Why?” You have to ask.

“Simple, there is a permanent gate to the prime, this city guards the gate against the demons. This city keeps the prime safe.”

“I see, how noble. I suppose I could use a bath.” Your stomach rumbling you add, “And a big plate of food.”

“Follow us.” He leads you in, takes you to a nice looking inn and pays the man in charge a few gold, “This is for her room and food for the next week.” Turning to you he says, “A reward for slaying the demon.”

“Thank you very much.” You eagerly chomp down the meat, cheese, and bread. Three mugs of ale later and a nice pretty little blonde haired girl helps you to your room and tucks you in to sleep. “Thanks pretty lady.” You say drunk and smiling.

“Not a problem pretty lady.” She says and you get the impression she is mocking you, but she does give you a tiny kiss that makes your cheeks burn. Seeing this she says, “Good night.” Laughs a sweet little laugh, and leaves you alone.
