Chapter 9

Lunch?
Sure, lunch sounds good.
David takes you to the nearest campus eatery where he kindly pays for your meal. He speaks to you of a variety of topics, including his experiences in the program and the research being done in your lab, which is actually a co-project with the psychobiology department.
"...which brings me to what I've been working on," says David, "psychotropic **** for...shall we say... mentally -compromised- patients, such as schizophrenics, bipolars, sociopaths, and others with mood disorders."
"And how's that been going?" you ask.
"Great!" replies David, "One of our ****, Mesmerol, has already gone by pharmaceutics and is now in clinical trials. It treats hyperactivity and anti-social behavior in kids and adults, depending on the formulation."
"Any side effects?"
"Sure. It causes some drowsiness and, if at too strong a dosage, tends to make people a little slow-witted... complacent. I guess that makes sense, right? if the **** is supposed to treat hyperactivity and anti-social behavior."
David fills you in on more of what the clinicians have found about the ****. It's interesting that he knows what's going on at the patient end of Mesmerol. Afterall, his role in the entire process is **** formulation, not live patient testing.
"I have a friend in the neuropsychiatric institute," he explains, "he shouldn't be telling me as much as he is, what with patient privacy and all." David smiles mischievously. "So keep that on the low-low, okay?"
David continues, "Anyway, assuming that Mesmerol is going to come back for reformulation-- and new **** invariably do-- that's what you'll be assisting me with."
You two finish your meals and head back to the laboratory. If David's words are to be believed-- and there isn't any reason not to, is there?-- you're in for an exciting time in the field of pharmacology.
So how do your studies go?
