Chapter 5 by PhoenixAuthor PhoenixAuthor

Voltage goes after Hitman, while Thunderstrike meets a new, high-tech heroine.

Suit Upgrade

I trudged down the abandoned street. After dark, only prostitutes or superpowered people walked the streets. My homemade suit was in tatters, but the goggles from Rahmi were still working great.

But out of nowhere, a figure landed in front of me. I reeled back, but they held up their hands.

“Same side.” she promised. She was wearing a full metal bodysuit, all silver and teal.

“Who are you?” I asked, my voice still modulated.

“I’m Enigma.” the heroine said proudly.

“Thunderstrike.” I boomed.

“I know. I’m a huge fan.” Enigma giggled.

“Thanks. What can I do for you?” I asked. I was sore and achy, but Rahmi had gone out as Voltage to find Hitman, so I left.

“Well, we could do a trade deal, I suppose. I can make you a real suit, but in exchange, I need some help with a crime gang. And... some training?” Enigma asked hopefully. I crossed my arms.

“Sure.” I nodded. Enigma clapped her hands and she led me to a laboratory building, and onto the seventh floor. She walked through the first door on the left, and I saw a sort of superhero lair. I closed the door behind me, and Enigma stepped up onto a glowing platform, and her armor started rippling, then unfolded off of her and stayed unfolded, ready for her to step back in.

Enigma’s real body was nothing like the suit’s large breasts and curvy body. She was probably 18, petite, with small, perky breasts. She had red hair pulled up in a messy bun, and gorgeous silvery eyes. She wore a white tank top with a flannel jacket, and skinny jeans.

“Hi, pleasure to meet you officially. I’m Hazel Hoffman.” she smiled, hand extended. I shook it gruffly. I flipped back my yellow hood and pulled off the goggles, then touched my fingers to my Adam’s apple and turned off the voice modulator.

“Jeremiah Hall.” I nodded. Hazel sucked in a breath, and I raised an eyebrow.

“Sorry, you’re just stupidly good looking.” she chuckled nervously. I laughed.

“You don’t have to lie.” I said to her, and Hazel grabbed for a remote with a lightning bolt on it. She pushed the button, and a panel in the wall opened. I gave her a look and went to open the panel, and I saw my suit upgrade.

“Confident I’d say yes, huh?” I smirked at Hazel. She shrugged innocently. I pulled off my hoodie and tossed it aside, and Hazel pushed a button on her wrist gauntlet, and a screen descended from the ceiling. I changed quickly, and looked at myself in the mirror as the screen slid up.

Instead of tactical pants and a yellow hoodie, I had lightweight grey armor, futuristic and sleek with yellow accents. Then there was a Kevlar yellow hood that was sowed into the back of the suit’s collar. Hazel’s gear did come with goggles, but I preferred Rahmi’s. I flipped up the hood, and lifted my arms. The arms ended in fingerless gauntlets, and I flexed my fingers.

“Damn. You’re really good with tech.” I complimented Hazel.

“Thanks! I really put a lot of thought into your costume, and I tried to stay faithful to the original. But let me discuss the new features I added. For one thing, bulletproof. Next, your wrist gauntlets can fire electric blasts for long range attacks. Guns are in the holsters inside your chestplate. I’ll show you how to pull them out in a minute. The hood is Kevlar, so it’s bullet-resistant. I don’t really know the specs of your goggles, but I can sync them to work with the built in navicomputer and the AI inside the suit, which I called Spark.” Hazel explained proudly. I grabbed her shoulder.

“You did really good. Here’s the goggles.” I said, handing them over. Hazel grabbed a computer chip off her desk and did some weird techy thing I can’t even begin to describe. She handed back my goggles, and I put them on to see a brand new HUD. There were my vitals in the bottom right corner. A little minimap up in the top left. And there was a mode called ‘Darken’ which darkened the outside of the lens to obscure my identity more.

“Hello, Thunderstrike.” a small voice said from the goggles.

“Spark, set course for Maiden’s Ferry.” Hazel said, and the minimap expanded briefly, showing a whole view of the city, and a yellow line drew me there, and then the map shrunk back into the circle, but now I could see directions beside it.

“Wow. This is great. But, what’s in Maiden’s Ferry?” I asked curiously.

“The gang you promised to help me track down.” Hazel said hopefully. I nodded.

“Of course I’ll help.” I said, and touched my voice modulator. It activated, and Hazel crossed the room to her suit, and it quickly reconstructed over her body, and I enjoyed the look of the suit. It was VERY sexualized, and Enigma led the way down the elevator and we walked out of the building.

Half an hour later, Enigma and I reached Maiden’s Ferry. It was a seedier region of the city, usually filled with prostitutes and wives and girlfriends looking for satisfaction. They were out tonight, but so were lots of men in ski masks, patrolling with shotguns.

“I’m shotgun proof, right?” I checked with Enigma. She nodded and held up two silver ninja stars that glowed teal in the center.

“Hey.” I boomed, and they all turned. I lifted my arms and shot the electric blasts at two of them, who spasmed before passing out. Enigma raced after something, but I was focused on the eight or nine guys running towards me. I ducked under a shotgun slug, dropped to a knee, and thunderclapped. They all grunted and went flying. I grabbed the nearest one’s shotgun and ran after Enigma. She was down by the docks, fighting against an Asian man in a tuxedo.

He slammed his elbow into her face, and she toppled to the ground. I charged into him, and he stumbled. Using my super-strength, I picked him up easily and drop kicked him into the wall. He crumpled, and I offered a hand to Enigma. She accepted it, and we stood close to each other for a brief second before her armor opened up to reveal her mouth. Before I knew it, I’d pulled the heroine in for a strong kiss, and she threw her arms around my neck, and I put mine on her suit’s artificial hips.

“How about we blow this boat to hell?” I smirked against Enigma’s lips, and she and I both glanced at the Asian man’s yacht. I hefted my stolen shotgun and fired two slugs into the hull, and handed the gun to Enigma. She glanced at me.

“I don’t really know how to use this.” she admitted. I laughed, and wrapped one arm around her waist, and put the other on her arm holding the gun. I lifted it so it was aimed at the boat, and Enigma pulled the trigger, one, two , three, four times. She tossed the shotgun into the water, and kissed me again.

“Maybe you wanna see my apartment?” I chuckled. She nodded eagerly, and I realized I was coasting in something like celebrity status with Hazel. And, well, Rahmi was way out of my league, and totally uninterested in me. A tiny part of my brain doubted that, but the majority drowned it out.

Jeremiah and Hazel have a sleepover, and in the morning, Rahmi is reported missing.
