Chapter 4 by Zeebop Zeebop

What does Sue say to Janet Van Dyne?

Sue Admits the Photos are of her

The Invisible Woman sighed to herself as she tapped out a reply. Honesty was the best policy. She wasn't prepared to lie to Janet just to hide her embarrassment over some old sexy photos.

SSR: They're real. I did a glamour shoot when I was young and stupid.

JVD: Oh wow. I didn't know you had it in you! At least they're tasteful.

SSR: Is there any way we can scour them from the internet?

JVD: The copyright owner can send a takedown notice. If you can contact them—buy back the rights—we can take them all down legally.

Sue Storm chewed her lower lip. The original owner would be the photographer. It was so long ago she couldn't even remember his name or the original magazine the photos had been published in. Briefly, Sue outlined the whole episode to Janet. The Invisble Woman's's blush spread to her ears as she unveiled the embarrassing details. She was sure that Janet must be laughing at her youthful indiscretion...but to her surprise, her fellow heroine came back with a possible solution.

JVD: What about your friend Mae? Could you get in touch with her? Maybe she remembers his name. I don't want to ask the Avengers to do any digging just yet—we'll keep this between us—but if we get a name then we can get the lawyers on it.

SSR: Thanks Jan. I'll try and contact her.

The blonde let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. Mae. Of course. They hadn't really been in contact since graduation, though the Invisible Woman was sure she still had a photo somewhere of the both of them together, in their robes. It shouldn't be difficult to find her contact information. If Reed asked, she could just say honestly that she was trying to get in touch with an old friend from university.

Of course, that made Sue wonder what Mae had been up to all these years. They'd grown apart, since that night. The blonde had sensed that Mae had wanted more than friendship, and Sue had been so focused on her relationship with Reed that—well, it had been years. Things were different now. They were both grown up, and Sue was a wife, a mother, a superheroine.

Sue tried to picture Mae in her mind—and then scrolled back up to the photo. When they were both so young. Mae was a blonde, but her hair was straighter than Sue's, her eyes more gray than blue. Close enough that the photographer had joked about them being twins, though Mae had been taller, wider at shoulder and hip, with bigger breasts that had begun to sag a little even then. Kind of like the big sister she had never had. Something that Sue had appreciated. With Johnny, she had always had to be the big sister, the little mother. It had been nice to let someone else guide her for a while. Except Mae had a wild streak in her. Unpredictable, daring. Sue had appreciated that too, at the time. After all, hadn't Sue been daring, when she snuck out to that rocket launch with the others? Hadn't she proved her own courage a thousand times over as a superhero?

A heavy tread in the hallway broke Sue out of her meditations. Ben was awake and headed toward the kitchen, and the sleepy pitter-patter of feet told her he had the kids with him. Sue tapped a goodbye to Jan, and went to prepare breakfast. After that, assuming the world didn't need saving, she would find out what had happened to her old friend Mae.

Little did the Invisible Woman know that was exactly what Mysterio had predicted she would do.

What does Sue Storm find out about Mae?
