Chapter 8 by Molotov989

Enter the forest at nightfall or not?

Strike now while the iron is hot!

Turning to Gunther you order that your men move out immediately. "We've wasted enough time, and who knows what horrors are being done to our people caught in their insidious lair? We must rescue them at once!"

Gunther claps a fist to his chest in salute, and passes the command down to the unit leaders. In no time at all, you enter the forest on horseback, with the volunteers from the village leading you to the scene of the last Goat man attack.

The path through this part of the woods is not so well worn as those regular trading routes along the outskirts, and you can clearly see signs of a struggle. With evidence of broken wood and gouge marks in some of the trees and earth, it looks as though maybe 2 or 3 caravans had opted to take the 'short-cut' to the next province, and paid dearly.

With only a few fading wheel tracks to go by, you follow the trail until you see a faint light in the distance. A pale green to the blazing orange of the torches carried by your men.

"Gunther, send some scouts to that ridge, lights out!" you call down the line. If this is the beasts' lair, you want your arrival to be a surprise.

what do you find?
