Chapter 18 by Altu5g Altu5g

Who's the lucky guinea pig?

Stranger Danger

You get in your car, and for a second you just sit there. All you did this whole day was just being other people. You didn't blame yourself for it, it was one hell of a passtime, but you got into so many near-detrimental situations in that little time, and your mind stayed with two rationalizations. Either you need to stop with this for now, or you need to test it further..

Maybe it was some sort of addiction developing, but you couldn't tell it for your own sake as your mind immediately springs to the second option. You turn on the engine and begin to drive off, thinking on the best way to test it.

You needed someone who you wouldn't worry about the consequences of your action affecting their life. A stranger would be the best option. But there were so many different option for that. For where to even look in the first place. You could be someone old or young, male or female. Maybe you could try becoming someone famous? It was all left to where you decided to look for your next victim...

Well, your little town of Smoak was some nowhere stop nestled between the more prominent Texan counties. People from here never said they were from here, just claiming the nearby Austin as home. Still, "small" in Texas standards was pretty big by the rest of the countriy's metric. As such, five local hangouts had taken prominence across the town's history.

Shady Lanes Mall and Theater was just as the name implied. A downtown mall situated between acres of parking lot and planted trees. One could find all sorts of shops around the mal, be they old antiques or last year's cutting edge technology. Meanwhile, the food court had a myriad of delicious and affordable option. Too bad the movie theater overcharged for snacks, but c'est la vi.

Van Buren National Park was located on the east side of town toward the forests. Think Central Park, but with less litter and more wild animals. With constant scheduling for events occurring, a random passerby always had a lot to gawk at whenever they passed through. However, the park was a lot more sketchy... At night.

Little Asia was a district of the west side of town that was home to a mix of cultures. East Asian, Middle Eastern, and South Asians of all kinds called this stretch of city blocks home. The smell, look, and sound all felt like a different world to be in. The only real downside was the heightened police presence there. Most folks would tell you about local crime rate, but the citizens knew the truth.

Middle Road was essentially the Times Square of Smoak. It was a central hub that everyone passed through as they went to other parts of town. Bars and the night life were popular here, though one had to watch out for Hawk's gang. Hawk was an old football star turned sour, who now ran his own gang in town. Everyone hated him, but being a jerk wasn' really illegal.

Lastly, Smoakyland, the town's newest attraction was a combination theme park, skate park, water park, and arcade. Brainstormed by some tech millionaire who managed to escape this small town, this place was universally beloved by those old and new. A place of fun and joy, heralded by their mascot the Smoaky Armadillo.

Which spot do you choose?
