Straight towards the closest elevator

"Hurry," Jess said, "if we go this way, we can get to my car." Jess pulled Emily along, whose short legs were struggling to keep up. They were slipping through small groups of people, a good number of whom seemed to have not noticed what was going on. Emily was looking around as they went though, and noticed several men and women looking at the familiar little slips of paper, most of whom were talking with someone of the opposite sex.

"Shit!" Jess hissed suddenly, "Hurry up!" she let go of Emily's hand and started running faster. Emily looked behind herself to see a man jogging towards them with a distinctive pass in his hand. Emily started running too, but she was a few seconds behind Jess.

Eventually, they made their way to one of the main elevators servicing the mall. It had a glass body, allowing people inside to look out as they made their way up and down. Through it, Emily could see three men, each reading their own copy of the blasted document. They were riding the elevator up to their level. Jess hadn't noticed yet.

"Jess!" Emily shouted, trying to get her attention. "Stop!" Jess, however, didn't seem to hear her. "Jess!" she called again. Her friend kept running towards the elevator.
