Straight Ahead

You head on straight down the hall, twisting and turning occasionally but following the linear path to a vast cavern system, the room was teeming with life and foliage, there were plants, insects, a water source and even trees growing down here. The cavern almost instantly transformed into a wooded forest with various calls from the animals within. As you were taking in the wonders of this bizarre cave a group of monkeys approached, three of them to be exact. They didn't look like any kind of monkey you could recognize on earth, their fur was a deep red and their size was imposing, bigger than you but not by much, with obvious muscles showing through their furred skin. Their teeth were sharp and having already noticed you they began to circle you, you understood this tactic and knew that these beasts meant trouble.

With your increased speed you twisted your body as you detected the monkey circling to your back began to lunge forward in an attack, you met the monkey head on and managed to scrape its shoulder blade with your spear, it jolted backwards having not managed to touch you, whelping in pain as it did so.

Before you're able to react a monkey grabs you from behind and hurls you towards a tree, your impact with the tree causes several bones to come loose inside your ribcage.

As you pick yourself up from the tree, you commend the beast for its seemingly out of proportioned strength, however this probably wasn't the time to be giving your opponent props for trying to kill you. The until now inactive monkey was on his way to you, charging foward on all fours, you extended your spear last second and the two of you strike each other again. The monkey thrusts his open palm out and it connects with your chest, sending your body back into the trees rough body.

'Shit' you curse to yourself, one more hit and you're dead, and these monkeys were fast, running wasn't an option anymore. Why did you enter this room so nonchalantly? Did you think because the room was wooded and green that it was somehow hospitable for ALL life ALL the time? Or that because you leveled up you were somehow hot shit? You went from a big fish in a small pond to a salmon that had been hunted down for no good reason, just as you had done earlier. The cycle of life was cruel, but you had no right to complain for dieing this way, you had done the exact same thing to that fish, you had no reason to eat but you killed it anyway. This was justice.

The monkey you had struck initially was now charging at you, you weren't no pussy, even in deaths door you wouldn't go out without a fight, the monkey clenched his knuckles into a fist and the two of you struck each other just like last time.

As the light fades from your eyes, you wondered if things could of gone differently had you just chosen a different path...
