“Pardon me, young man, but did you see a woman in the restroom?”

Francis turned around and faced a mall rent-a cop, a young woman in a stylish dark blue police uniform that was snug in all the right places with her blonde hair in a tight bun and a black plastic nightstick hanging loosely from her belt.

“I don’t think so,” he smiled, playing dumb and reading her nametag. “Might I ask why, Officer Silvers?”

“A young woman by the name of Catherine Delupe reported her mother as missing about an hour ago,” the security guard said, studying the young man with her hazel eyes.

“Oh, well, in that case, I haven’t seen a thing,” Francis smirked. “In the meantime, please answer some questions for me.”

“Um, okay,” the blonde-haired woman said, blinking in bewilderment. “Shoot.”

“What’s your first name, Officer?” he asked. “And how old are you?”

“Sally. I’m twenty-one.”

“Are you in married, Sally?”

“No,” she shook her head.

“Dating anyone?”

“Nope.”
