Chapter 7 by HenryKajitani HenryKajitani

Where did Lucy go?

Stop at the gas station

Lucy was fed up with the rain and wasn't about to run out of gas on her way home. She may have been underdressed, but her underwear covered everything vital.

Reluctantly, Lucy turned the other way and carefully navigated down the waterlogged street. She felt confident there was enough gas to make the short trip, but it was anxiety-inducing nonetheless. Beads of water rolled down her body like sweat on a hot day.

After an eternity, her sedan finally rolled into the humble corner gas station. Lucy stepped out of her car and back into the brisk evening air. The wind blew light mist into the covered pumps. Luckily, no one else was around, but her current condition tempered that comfort.

She reached for her wallet to get her card when a grave realization came to mind. It was still on the desk in the office. Horrified and with no other options, Lucy resigned that she'd have to ask the attendant for help.

A bell rang through the tiny convenience store as the door swung open. Drops of water occasionally dripped from Lucy's clothes and body.

A blonde girl sat on a stool with her legs crossed, reading something. She glanced up at Lucy judgementally, "Not exactly a beach day, is it?" Lucy was embarrassed by the comment about her clothing, but the girl continued, "Just try to keep from getting the merchandise wet, please."

Lucy approached the counter and took a deep breath to hold her composure. The bored blonde looked at Lucy again, giving her a dull acknowledgment, "Can I help you with something?"

"I'm trying to get home, and I don't have enough gas to get home, so I came here, but I forgot my wallet at work, and the doors are locked..." Lucy rambled.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down there," the girl responded. "Sounds like you've had a rough day, but I can't just give you gas for free."

"But I can pay for it. I work at the diner just up the street. I can bring money tomorrow," Lucy desperately bargained.

"My boss would kill me if I gave some random person credit. How am I supposed to know you're honest?"

"Come on!" Lucy whined. "I'll give you free coffee, free meals, whatever you want, just please let me get some gas."

The girl sighed and set her reading material down. Leaning one elbow onto the counter, her eyes crawled over Lucy's half-exposed body. "Tell you what - maybe I can cut you a deal."

What deal does the girl propose?
