Stable her horse. Sell the others.

As Lisa approached the small town of Deadneck, she noted a small crowd gathering. Lisa placed her right hand on her colt and urged her steed on.

As Lisa got closer she tried looking into the faces of the crowd in an effort to judge how they might react. Each face she would look at was quickly turned away, as if the person was afraid.

Judging that the crowd posed no threat to her, Lisa turned her attention to the town itself. Deadneck was a typical example of a frontier town in decline. The vast majority of the towns structures were of wooden construction, with the exception of two stone buildings side by side on the north side of main street. The first was marked as the sheriff's office, and the second as the Bank of Deadneck.

The whole town had a run down look about it. The bank despite its stone structure looked the worst with its main double doors hanging at precarious angles. It looked as if it had been that way for some time. Lisa considered leaving this god forsaken place but the hard truth was that both she and her horse would die if they did not rest up and reprovision first.

Spotting the stables, Lisa decided to take care of her horse and sell the other two. Lisa dismounted and led the three animals into the stables.

"What can I do for you miss?" asked an unseen voice.

"I'd like to stable my horse for a few days," Lisa answered trying to guess where the voice had come from, "and sell these two."

"Its thirty dollars a day for stabling, feed, grooming and exercise." the voice called back. "Dont got no money to buy horses."

"Thats daylight robbery!" exclaimed Lisa.

"Nah miss thems just facts of life in Deadneck." replied the voice.

Lisa sighed as she thought about the offer.

"Four days," Lisa called out, "thats $120. Minus $10 to buy each horse on the understanding that I get 25% of any sale. Thats $100. Deal?" proposed Lisa.

Lisa heard a whispered discussion and leaving the horses she went towards the voices. In the last stall on the left, Lisa found the source of the whispers.
