Onward To Character Selection!
Stable Of Pregens: The Magnificent Seven
Here You can select from seven characters you can play built for the midline dynasties, those houses which are neither old nor young as the Imperium measures such things. Each one has certain strengths and weaknesses, chose wisely.
Captain Albus Dumbo Dior: The Scavenger.
Albus is not a small man in any dimension. Standing 6'7" tall, and tipping the scales at 36 stone*, he is as big in ambition as he is in his physical stature. The rumors that his mother lay with an Ogren to conceive him are vile slander: it was his great-grandfather along the male line who married an abhuman...
*(Only part of which is fat, he is also literally 'big boned' and has more muscles than he would first appear too.)
Albus is known among the Rogue traders of Port Wander as "The Scavenger" because he has made his fortune picking the bones of the failed ventures of other dynasties. He made his first million thrones salvaging useable components from The Battleground in the maw, refurbishing them in his shops at footfall, and auctioning them off to interested parties. He has gone on to make money from ventures such as stealing the refuse of the long war between the Chordata and Winterscale dynasties on Lucien's Breath to sell to the imperial forces on Albain's Folly and ferrying concerned parties to Grace for scavenging among the ruined mansions there.
Captain Albus's ship, the "Khyrie's Enduring Freedom" is a Universe-class Mass Conveyor. He runs a handful of other armed merchantmen from his captain's throne, which is said to resemble that of a Navigator's Sanctuary, so total is it's life support systems.
When Captain Albus Dumbo Dior leaves the bridge of his ship, he does so armed with an expensive Stub-Pistol and his family saber, which is claimed to hold the key to his family stasis vaults on the Lathe world of Het. He also does so accompanied by his oath-sworn bodyguard Rufus "Hound" Del-Flur and dressed in specially modified Best Quality Storm Trooper Carapace.
Grand-Admiral Sarvus Trask: The Legend.
To recount half of what Trask has done in the annals of the Koronus Expanse would beggar the work of an entire world of scribes, for there is not one day that goes by in the bars of Port Wander that some fresh tall tale is not circulating about him.
Trask is a mighty mountain of a man dressed in a costume as flamboyant as any in the expanse. He has both made and lost great fortunes in the almost 400 years of real time he has haunted the world's of the Koronus Expanse and is counted a personal friend of no less than Wrath Umbolt himself.
(This character gives you an advanced start option, gracing you with a much better starting character at the price of a much harder game...)
Commodore Peyoter Alan James Tiberius Vorhapilos of the House of Herzing: The Veteran.
My, how the mighty have fallen. His apparent age sitting at around 66 years old, Commodore Vorhapilos was once being considered for command of an entire sector's battlefleet. Then there was that unfortunate rumor that he was a demon worshipper, and the =][=-NQUISITION put him to the question...
Amazingly he passed every test of purity they put him too, and the verdict of the Lord-Inquisitor running the trail was that he was wholly blameless, but the damage was done: reputation shattered and the waters poisoned by dark suspicions he would never rise in rank again: so everyone thought.
The Cardinal Astral of the Calixis Sector, hearing of this travesty, appealed to Governor Hax to grant him a ship and a warrant of trade, which the Sector Governor did; in a backhanded way. A marriage was arranged between the Commodore and a relatively young heiress of a Rogue Trader Dynasty, which by longstanding decree could only be headed by a male warrant holder but whose elderly father had no living male issue. Though the match was arranged and they came to it as strangers, and in Peyoter's case as a widower, the match is said to be a happy one. This would certainly be implied by the fact that Dame Abigail Kali Victoria Wingate Vorhapilos (Nee-Herzing) has born Peyoter a combined total of 14* sons and daughters in the 16 years they have been together and is said to be pregnant for the sixth time even now.
*(Imperial fertility treatments are the best in the galaxy...)
With his 'young'* bride at his side, Commodore Vorhaplios commands the Carrack-class Transport "Rebuke To Damnation" as well as a handful of other armed merchantmen such as the Vagabond-class Trader "Princess Of Persia", which they take residence on every five years or so for about a year.
*(Both of them are far older than any human now living in the real world, but with an actual age difference of 202 years and an apparent difference of 40-and-a-bit years she is frightfully young compared to her husband.)
In a more personal sense, the Commodore is a man of deep and abiding Faith, but also a practical man. The bedrock of the families fortunes after his 16-year tenure as the head of the house, (His Father-in-law retired to the captaincy of the "Princess Of Persia", thus the year-long stays aboard the other ship,) is now closely tied to the 'civilizing' efforts of the Ecclesiarchy in the Koronus Expanse. Lucrative contracts for ferrying missionaries to various hotspots and trouble areas, the management of several Ecclesiarchy backed colonies, a sideline in ferrying other dynasties troops to various, (Ecclesiarchy approved,) micro crusades and invasions throughout the expanse, and several other pious-but-profitable ventures are what ensures their bottom line remains in the black.
The Commodore does not hold with the more swashbuckling mode of Rogue Trader dealings, he prefers to remain aboard his ship when and where possible but has been known to take a personal hand in many activities: if required. For these outings, he carries a Naval issue Power Cutlas and a finely crafted stub-revolver with an armored void suit for defense.
Dame-Captain Aki Zeta Quinn "Sun-Spire" of the House of Vehoniam: The Kid.
Alone of the people on this roster, Aki is actually as young as she appears to be...
Aki Zeta Quinn "Sun-Spire" is the daughter of the late Rogue Trader Dominik Vehoniam, forty-second of his line. She was conceived by artificial insemination of a surrogate-host-mother from among the lesser handmaidens of Sector-Governor Marius Hax's wife three weeks after her father's **** with no legitimate issue and destined from the moment of conception to be a Rogue Trader. However, fate was to play her a cruel trick: mere hours after her birth she was spirited away from the Adeptus Medicae maternity ward by agents unknown for reasons that have never been discovered and given into the hands of a childless couple in the fetid and stinking depths of Gunmetal City halfway across the planet.
Aki Zeta Quinn grew up knowing in her soul she was destined for greater things. At 13 she ran away from home and joined a gang as a 'Juve' with nothing but a switchblade and a locally produced 'ripper pistol'. By 18 she was considered an 'OG'* of her gang, and by 20 she was the gang leader following the previous gang leader being taken in by the Arbiters and shipped off world as part of the gun crews of an Imperial Navy Cruiser.
*("Original Ganger": a term of intense respect among Gunmetal City gangbangers.)
During her rise to gang leader status, she earned the moniker "Sun-Spire" because she would tell people when she was feeling most confident "Someday I'm gonna see the sun from the spire!" After her ascension to the gang's leader, she made it the entire goal of the gang to see them all LIVE that dream, or die trying. Three years of pedal-to-the-metal, balls to the wall, white-knuckle-wrecking-ball crazy heists, hits, and urban warfare followed where her gang "The Lava Drakes" went. Her gang grew by leaps and bounds, so fast and so hard that they became a threat to the stability of the city: in the physical sense.
No one knows how or where she got it, but Aki Zeta Quinn acquired an Imperial Battleship macro-cannon warhead and concealed it somewhere deep in the Infernus region of the hive: using a specially modified data slate with an untraceable signal hooked up to a pict feed in the chamber where the warhead was housed to hold the entire city hostage for several weeks while her gang went tearing through the hive on an unprecedented looting spree. However, somehow the rogue tech adepts who had helped her create this "Balance of Terror" were convinced to turn on her and she was captured, taken to a Mechanicus forge shrine and tortured for three days by having various parts of her body flensed away without anesthesia until she would reveal the location of the warhead. She never broke, but Gunmetal City survived: because Marius Hax himself came to her rescue.
You see, the loyal Mechanicus agents had gene typed her blood to test for what sort of **** to use for eliciting more accurate responses, and this had filtered through the planetary cortex to set off alarms in the Tricorn Palace. The =][=-nquisiton, after confirming the findings, informed the Governor. Governor Hax came to the rescue of the last scion of a Rogue Trader Dynasty sanctioned not by his hand but the High Lords of Terra themselves, declaring that if the mechanicus would not release her into his custody he would break their shrine open with the combined might of over 5,000 members of his gubernatorial guards. They did not release her, but allowed Hax in to SEE her, and asked if he might try to use his legendary political acumen to play the 'good cop' and attempt to obtain from her with the offer of reward the information they had failed to uncover with pain and psychic scrying.
The governor spent three hours reading her extensive file from the Arbiters and Mechanicus, then entered the **** room and swayed her to his service in twenty words or less...
"I will take you to the Spire, just help me stop the warhead."
Amazingly, Aki Zeta Quinn was savvy enough to know she could ask for more than that and laid out her terms:
1: not only her but all her gang would be given the governor's pardon for all past crimes.
2: they ALL would be taken to the spire, and see the dawn from above the **** fumes.
3: every man and woman among them would be given cybernetic enhancement to repair any crippling injuries, new or old, at the Adeptus Mechanicus expense.
4: they would be given passage on a ship to a frontier world, WITH their guns, gear, and families, and settled somewhere that they could make an honest living as miners and gunsmiths.
The governor laughed at the fourth provision, but before she could threaten him or otherwise behave foolishly he said: "You haven't the faintest idea that you're actually a Rogue Trader, but you already negotiate like one: truly it MUST be in your very DNA!" Aki knew enough to realize that as a Rogue Trader she would have a ship of her own, and replied: "Very well then, the provision stands except that they will join the crew of my ship."
"Done!" Governor Hax replied and had her rushed to a field OR just outside the shrine to be stabilized and field dressed for fitting with cybernetics once the bomb was disarmed...
That was three years ago.
Over those three years, she has been extensively schooled in etiquette, the broader Imperium, and other things needful for her new life as a rogue trader, as well as having the inherent mild case of heavy metal poisoning from growing up in Infernus chelated out of her body. She has assumed command of her families one remaining ship, the Meritech Shrike-class Raider "Lord Hathor's Brood-Mare" and practiced sailing it around the Scintilla system, doing pirate hunting among other fun activities, while finally allowing herself to become pregnant with the child of her long-standing "Partner" Kal 'dead-drop' Clancy.
Now it's time for Aki and her gang to turn the "Lord Hathor's Brood-Mare" twards Port Wander and the Koronus Expanse beyond.
"Are they ready?" Do you have what it takes to find out?
Lord-Captain Sylvester "Steel Star" Marbo: the Gunslinger.
An incredibly distant relative of the legendary hero of the Imperial Guard "Sly Marbo", Lord-Captain Sylvester Marbo shares some of his distant relative's propensity for mayhem. The Marbo dynasty is old in the annals of the Imperium, dating back to the age of apostasy, and has served the Imperium well over those long years. They have served well and capably throughout those ages of history: now standing among the premier houses of the Koronus Expanse.
However, many who once might have offered the dynasty aid and service do so no longer. The Marbo dynasties previous warant holder Stallion "Loveless" Marbo, has blackened the reputation of the dynasty for what will most likely be generations, having been caught utilizing sorcery to 'improve' their ships. Taken to the pyre in chains by the =][=-NQUISITION his infant son was found to be free of taint, and so was made Rogue Trader under an Inquisitorial regent.
Sylvester Marbo learned much from the =][=-NQUISITION as he grew up, becoming a rising star among the noble classes of Scintilla. He became renowned for pistol dueling, earning the acclaim of many houses for which he had served as "Attournae", and the emnity of those whose prize gunfighters he had cut down in these duels.
At the age of 105 years he was at last given command of his family's one ship that had not had to be sent to be broken up and purified, the Jericho-class Pilgrim Vessel "Solutia Tirtio" and went off to make his fortune...
In the years since he has proven himself a better Rogue Trader by far than his father, he has expanded his fleet to include five ships in total, three raiders captured from a pirate fleet, and another Jericho-class Pilgrim Vessel rescued from an attack by a peculiar xenos scout ship.
