Specialized hunter

Once a couple years ago, one of the several good secret agencies tried to make the ultimate superhero. How, you might ask, did they try to accomplish this feat of legend?

Well, simple. They created a special process that would give people a superpower, but not just any superpower—the power to adapt to any situation. The problem is the process only worked on a few people, and they could only test it on a few to begin with since it was experimental, but you might ask, How does adaptive work as a superpower?

Well, simply put, it means you got someone throwing fireballs at you; you adapted fireballs; they started throwing lighting at you; you then adapted to lighting; they started throwing ice at you; you adapted to ice; so on and so forth. Except they found out a serious problem when their star super for their project was up against a group of supervillains instead of just one-on-one.

It wasn't pretty; her powers tore her apart as they tried to adapt to so many different powers at once. Her corpse looks like a Frankenstein of different monsters by the end of it all. So after that, the project was cancelled and the files buried. Until one day some Hydra spies would stumble upon the failed project while looking for top secret Intel.

Hydra saw some good in the project where the old agency hadn't. Instead of a hero for every situation, they instead saw a hunter to hunt a single hero that had a counter for their power specifically. So once Hydra got their hands on all the data, they began to kidnap people that met the criteria that had been found during the earlier testing to respond best to the process, and so they had their guinea pigs for their hunter serum test.

That's what this story is about the monsters that were made by Hydra and the trail of enslaved and broken women they left in their wake, and to try and figure out who the true villains are—the monster or the people that made them?
