Chapter 2
by Lilyflier
Do you take your chances with monopoly man's doppelganger or the familiar voice around the corner?
Sorry Thompson, I'm staying behind.
You stand still, waiting for her to round the corner.
"God's sake, if you change your mind, jump through! Otherwise..you're a dead man."
She rounds the corner, leading a lion by the collar. She stops for a moment, staring back and forth between you and Thompson.
Thompson jumped through the green door, disappearing into another dimension and leaving you and this girl alone, you hope you haven't made a mistake.
She's a pretty lass, long blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. She wore what looked like light body armor, a longsword, and a light travel pack which she proceeded to drop. She also motioned with her hand, and the lion sat beside her supplies.
"Who are you and what were you doing with Thompson?" She asked in an accusatory tone.
"I honestly don't know...my name is Daniel."
Her eyes go wide for a moment and then resume their distrustful glare.
"Why should I believe you?"
"If I were you I wouldn't, I don't have any proof and you seem to have some agenda against that Thompson guy, but I'm being honest when I'm saying I don't know what's going on." The lion seems to sense the truth in your words and lays down.
"Then..you won't mind if I take you back to Eden-16 with me?" She seemed almost hopeful you'd say yes, her accusatory tone starting to fade.
"I..don't imagine I would, what's it like there?"
"Come on, I'll show you!" She twirls around and gathers up her things, running a hand over the lion to signal that he should follow her.
You jog up next to her, and continue following her down a series of hallways with doors similarly random to the first few.
"Who are you?" You queried after a little while of walking through hallways, she had to have walked the path many times before to remember where she was going. There didn't appear to be any signs indicating which way lead where, aside from the different doors in design, size, shape and color.
"My name is Strength, you can call me {s} if you like. What's yours?" You were surprised by her friendly tone, it seemed she reserved her accusatory one for those she thought might be working with Thompson, you had to wonder what the poor man did to deserve it.
"I'm Daniel, where are you taking me again?"
"Eden-16! My clan lives there, It's a nice place for the most part, the people are...manageable."
"We're here!" She suddenly stopped and turns to a tan door with the name "Eden-16 stamped beside it," she took a key off her necklace and inserted it into the door. With a twist and a click, it opened, revealing a vast set of tents in a mostly desert-y landscape. She turned, placing the necklace back on her neck and giving you a smile and a wink before disappearing through the doorway.
You follow suit, you could have sworn it looked lower than you appeared...
"aaaAAA" you fall into a conveniently placed wagon full of hay.
"Don't you know you're supposed to go through with a clear mind?" She says with a hint of humor.
"N-no, I didn't know that. Not exactly familiar with going through portals."
She gave you a quizzical stare for a moment. "Where do you come from?"
You think about lying for a moment but decide against it, she seems nice enough despite Thompson' warnings and you have no clue where you might suggest you came from.
"I don't really know."
This catches her attention, and she stares at you longer than you ordinarily liked being stared at.
"What do you mean you don't know? Do you remember what your home dimension is like? I might have visited, I've done a lot of traveling."
"I.. I don't remember. I really wish I knew." A pang of loneliness followed as you got up and brushed yourself off.
She beams, "That's alright, I'm sure you'll fit in fine..here" her grin fades a little as she looks around.
There were a few people in similar attire to her's, none holding lions (thankfully) and usually in less armor and more everyday clothing, overall a medieval town with one exception in that there was a wall next to you that seemed strangely technological for the times.
"What is that?" You ask instinctively.
"The fallen angels came in that..brought the door with them." She pointed at the door you came through.
"You mean that's a crashed spaceship?" You ask almost excitedly, you had always had a fascination with space craft...you think.
She gave you a funny look, maybe 'spaceship' isn't a familiar word.
"Listen..Daniel" she addressed you with a serious tone, "I really don't want to leave you so soon but something is wrong, these streets should be full of people..I need to talk to the village elders."
"I understand, what should I do in the mean time?" You ask, not knowing where to go in the alien environment.
"Whatever you wish! Nothing's off limits, I suggest staying in this section of the wings if you don't want to run into trouble with the other clans though."
"Wings?" You look up and realize the wall you saw is only a small part of a massive craft which stretches beyond your field of vision. "I'll take your advice on that."
She smiles, it seems she did that often. "Here, take this while I'm gone. Blow the horn if you need to get my attention, use the knife if you find yourself in trouble and I can't get there in time, there's enough food in there to last you until I return- oh, and..it was nice meeting you."
She hands you her travel pack and leaves.
"Goodbye! Nice meeting you too!" You call as she and her lion head down an alley and disappear into a maze of tents.
Where to now?
