Chapter 108 by switching switching

On the Road to Frankia

Sophie and Beatrice Have Their Babies

Your travelling party composing of several key people you know was drawn to a complete halt on the way to Frankia. Camilla had remained in Ostgrenze to help run the Kingdom and to keep watch and company on Dorothye. It starts with your mother. She suddenly feels a familiar jolt of pain coming from her womb. Your stepfather Franz Jacques quickly informs you and you order the party to stop.

The tents are set up and Beatrice is attended to by her Ladies-in-Waiting including Sophie with Franz Jacques by her side. Hours later, the cries of a newborn baby are heard throughout the camp.

Sophie exits your mother’s tent. Her dress stained by blood and some other fluids. She brushes her sweaty brow and sighs deeply. “Your mother is fine, Sire. She has given birth to a healthy son. They have named him Jean.”

“Oh thank goodness!” Your mother has given birth to her fifth child, your half-brother. Even though all the women you know how have given birth have survived the ordeal, you are very well aware of the risk a woman undergoes while giving birth. Women die bringing their children into the world and there is always a risk that either your mother or the mothers of your children could die delivering their babies. “Thank the Almighty she is allright.”

“Congratulations on your newborn brother, young King!” Miriam walks by with baby Adelheid in her arms. Miriam volunteered to look after her while your mother was giving birth.

Then suddenly you hear Sophie grunt loud in pain. Her face in a grimace while one hand clutches her belly. She nearly losses her footing but you catch her and keep her up. You then hear the sound of water splash and you see Sophie’s dress water below her stomach and a small poddle of water around her feet.

“The baby’s coming!” She hisses in pain. “It’s coming! Oh it hurts!”

You gulp. Another child of yours is about to be born. You lift Sophie bridal style and bring her to your personal tent. You call for a midwife and the woman who helped deliver your half-brother comes to your and Sophie’s aid.

Soon enough, Sophie gives birth to another one of your children. “It’s a girl. Congratulations, Sire. Sophie has given birth to a healthy daughter.” Announces the midwife. The cord is cut, the child is cleaned and wrapped in a bundle before being handed to Sophie.

Sophie happily takes the child into her arms. She nurses it on her breast. “Hey there, my little one. I’m your mother.” Sophie looks up smiling like the happiest woman in the world, “A daughter, Sire. I have born your a daughter.”

“Yes, you have, dear Sophie. Thank you for my daughter.”

You both agree to call her Lara.

You hold your newborn daughter Lara in your arms. Her mother had just fed her and you are lulling her to sleep. Sophie herself is sleeping, tired from the birth. "Another of your children is brought to the world, my King." That is Eliza and she brings with her your son by her, Simone.

"Eliza," you greet her with a small smile, "hello there, my son," you say to little Simone, "I want you to meet your new half-sister, Lara." Lara had her mother's blue eyes. She is still bald at the moment but it seems Simone has inherited your blond hair. Eliza brings Simone closer to Lara but the little baby has no idea what was going on and instead is just looking around.

"Congratulations on the birth of another child, young King." That is Miriam, still taking care of Adelheid. "But where is her mother?"

"Sophie is sleeping right now. It was a long birth." You say.

"Poor little thing," Miriam says about Sophie, "has the child been fed?"

"She has," you answer. "Where is King Franz Karl?"

"The King is with his cousin, his cousin-in-law and their newly born son. Lothelsabourg has a proper heir now."

You sigh. You are so busy with your new daughter that you completely forgot about your mother and her new baby. "That's good. That's good."

You and Franz Karl Talk Over a Warm Drink
