Chapter 11

Did that help?
Somewhat.
I must have begun to lose control of my senses, because the Coopers had declined to serve me more ****. "I think you've had quite enough, Mr. McKay," Mr. Cooper had reasoned, "anymore and I fear that you'll be too **** to be present for your intentions later."
Holding out my cup, I slurred, my tongue speaking freely, "That is exactly why I have not had enough, Mr. Cooper. It is my hope, that I be completely intoxicated, that sleep will overtake me before you take your daughter as your wife."
"Well, we can't have that. Fortunately, the solution is simple." Mr. Cooper smiled. Grabbing me by my scuff, he hauled me over to a barrel of water outside. I protested, obviously, but in my current state, I was helpless against his mighty arms as they dunked my head into the water repeatedly. By the time I was back inside, I was chilled to the bone and completely sober. Fortunately, Mrs. Cooper had the good sense to prepare some steaming Coffee and dry towels for us, both of which I eagerly and gratefully accepted.
After giving me some time to warm myself, they informed me that they were about to retire to their bed. Closing my eyes, I let out a long sigh, took a steadying sip of Coffee and followed behind them.
Their room was quaint yet spacious, but quite warm and bright from the numerous oil lamps strewn about, for the heavy curtains had been drawn. "In honor of being, we hope, your introduction to how things are in Madsin, Mr. McKay," Mr. Cooper said, already undoing his shirt, "we took the liberty of ensuring that you get to see everything. But if it is too much, we can always turn the lamps down so that you're comfortable." I told him that even if they were to do this in complete darkness, I would not be completely comfortable, but since we had all come this far, I would see it through.
Now stripped down to only his breeches, Mr. Cooper nodded and directed me to a rather comfortable chair, which had a clear view of the bed, while in the corner of the room, we saw Mrs. Cooper's dress get thrown over her dressing screen. "Is he ready?" she called, poking her head out from behind it.
Was I?

Madosin.
A voyeur's tale.
The journals of Devon Mckay, the only outsider to ever enter and leave the commune of Madosin, have been found. And what stories they hold. Cover image credited to https://pixabay.com/photos/still-life-candle-book-vintage-5347677/
