You watch in interest as a chitinous shell begins to cover his body. It has a pretty metallic shine. A tail has begun to grow from the bottom of his spine.

His eyes remain wide with terror even as his DNA is being rewritten. You marvel at the him. He is becoming an entirely new creature created from DNA of over ten thousand different life forms. You are confident even the moon sized supercomputers in the confederacy couldn't have done the complex math required to create something like this.

You watch as the now black chitin covers his entire body. Much of the DNA for his shell comes from iradae blattaria. Colloquially named the space cockroach. The little pests were found in the Ursa system and occasionally become serious problems for spacecraft. There shells and oxidized metal under layers allow them to exist in deep space for days alive and moving. There ability to eat iron has made them a gigantic nuisance.

If this works Markus won't be needing a spacesuit any longer. You examine his growing tail. It is modeled from earth scorpions. A sharp venom sac at its end looks to already contain ample amounts of both the nanites and retrovirus that are changing his body and mind.

You watch as he loses consciousness. You circle around the evolution tube admiring him. He is a bit taller, entirely covered in a shiny black shell, he still has two arms and legs, but they end in pincers capable of crushing metal. You know he should be resistant to both energy and projectile weapons. His head seals, making a space suit unnecessary. An inner jaw has rows and rows of sharp teeth.

His eyes reopen. They are yellow and seem distant. He is perhaps trying to process his new abilities to see on multiple spectrums. You hit a button and the fluid begins to drain.
