Chapter 3

What does Taylor write?

Someone else gets the book

Meanwhile, in another world, one of the many innumerable earths under the control of the Entities, a different hand picked up the book, staring down at it.

It could be a hero, or a villain or even one of the ordinary civilians left in the wake of the battles of Parahumans.

It could be someone greedy and selfish, or heroic and selfless. How will they use this new power?

Worm Information

Worm is a grimdark deconstruction of the superhero genre in a similar vein to the Boys or Invincible. It is mostly centred around the city of Brockton Bay, a crumbling city in an economic downturn filled with many superpowered being known as Parahumans, or more informally, Capes.

Capes get their power on the worst day of their life, known as a trigger event. People who are related to or have spent a lot of time around capes are more likely to trigger. Capes are also subtly influenced by their powers to seek out combat, and villains are far more common than heroes.

It is not known to the public, but some people obtain powers by drinking vials created by a secret organization called Cauldron. These are known as Cauldron Capes.

Most capes follow an informal code called The Unwritten rules that involve not attacking capes in their civilian identity, and not killing other capes unless absolutely necessary amongst other things. They exist to prevent escalation into all-out war between heroes and villains.

Parahuman Types

  1. Mover: An ability that grants a cape enhanced speed or mobility
  2. Shaker: An ability with an area of effect
  3. Brute: An ability that grants a cape enhanced strength or durability
  4. Breaker: An ability that allows a cape to shift into another state
  5. Master: An ability that allows a cape to control others or create minions
  6. Tinker: An ability that allows a cape to create or alter devices with futuristic technology
  7. Blaster: A long-ranged, offensive ability
  8. Thinker: An ability that focuses on information gathering
  9. Striker: A melee/touch-based ability
  10. Changer: An ability that allows a cape to alter their form or appearance
  11. Trump: An ability that allows a cape to manipulate powers in some capacity
  12. Stranger: An ability that focuses on stealth and/or infiltration

Groups and Notable Characters of Brockton Bay

Major Gangs

The Protectorate is the governmental paramilitary **** of heroes mostly responsible for combatting villains.

The Wards are the junior branch of the protectorate. While officially they are not supposed to partake in much fighting, in a city as dangerous Brockton Bay they often get involved anyway.

The Empire Eighty-Eight or E88 is the largest gang in Brockton Bay, a neo-nazi/white supremacist group involved in ****, gambling, protection and other similar crimes that also often violently **** minorities. They are the ABB's main enemy. They are notable for having by far the most capes in Brockton Bay, even more than the Protectorate

The Asian Bad Boyz or ABB are a pan-asian gang involved in everything from gambling, ****, and protection rackets to human trafficking and **** prostitution. They are the Empire's main enemy. The ABB is notable for having the arguably strongest cape in the Bay as their leader.

Capes

Lung - Real Name KentaLung, who gets more powerful the longer he is fighting and the more danger he is in, turning into a metallic dragon as he fights. The leader of the ABb

Oni Lee - Name Unkown
Oni Lee is Lung's enforcer and subordinate. He speaks rarely and is known for being highly violent. He can teleport in line of sight, leaving behind an ash clone that has a few seconds to attack. Using this he can repeatedly detonate the same set of grenades over and over, making him the world's only serial suicide bomber.

Bakuda - Name Unknown
A Bomb Tinker can make exotic bombs such as black holes, pain generators, bombs that turn people to glass and more. Joins the ABB later.

Minor Gangs

New Wave is a family-centred team of capes who revealed their secret identity in the hopes of adding accountability to parahuman life. The movement lost all momentum after the **** of Fleur, one of the founding members, in her civilian identity by a member of the Empire.

Coil is an independent and mysterious villain. He uses tinkertech armed mercenaries and maintains a small territory. In reality, he is far more dangerous than he seems. Also the secret leader of the Undersiders.

The Archer's Bridge Merchants or the Merchants is a small-time gang of degenerate **** dealers as likely to use their own supply as to sell it.

Faultline's Crew are a group of mercenaries based out of a nightclub called the Palanquin. They tend not to take jobs in their home city and are often out travelling.

The Undersiders are a group of small-time smash-and-grab thieves, often involved in corporate espionage, casino heists and the like.

So, who does get it?
