Chapter 5 by CarterRyan CarterRyan

What does the witch intend to do to Solomon?

Solomon tries to escape

I suspect that the witch's intentions may be lascivious rather than hostile, but I don't know that for certain so I decide to use magic to free myself of the ropes that are binding me to the ornate bedposts. But when I try to use magic on the bonds, I begin to have a constricted feeling in my chest. I have to gasp for air. I realize that my attempt to use magic somehow caused the asthma-like attack. I stop trying to use magic and my breathing somewhat improves but my airway still feels constricted.

A few minutes later, the witch enters the bedroom. She notices my labored breathing.
"Oh, you tried to use magic, didn't you?"

"What did you do to me?", I ask.

"Well, as you know, I put a sleeping potion in your soup. But the soup also contained parasitic worms that attached themselves to your lungs. They're normally microscopic and the average person would be unlikely to ever notice their presence because under normal circumstances they don't harm their host. However, magic is like a superfood for them. It causes them to grow exponentially larger. So when you tried to use your magic, the worms grew larger and began to constrict your airway."

I don't respond at first as I'm pondering this new information. Now that I know about the worms and their location, I may be able to execute a focused magical attack that will kill the worms before they grow larger. But it would be risky. First, if I fail to kill the worms they'll grow even larger, constricting my airway even more. And if they become too large, I won't be able to breathe at all. Second, it probably isn't enough to just kill the worms. I need to obliterate their bodies in order to clear my airway. Whatever spell I use must be powerful enough to destroy the worms, but precise enough that it doesn't do the same thing to my lungs.

Should I attempt to destroy the worms? Or should I wait to find out exactly what the witch intends for me? It's possible that she has a safer way to get rid of the worms and may do so after she gets whatever she wants from me. The question is what does she want from me? Maybe she's just lonely and wants to get laid. I can certainly help her with that.

"What do you want from me?", I ask the enchantingly beautiful witch.

What does the witch want?
