Chapter 2
Where will Eva go?
Solo climbing at forest!
Eva looked around her bedroom knowing it would be dull weekend if she didn't go climbing. So naturally she took every piece of her climbing gear out of backpack, checked them over (and checking she had her 5 litres of water and weeks worth of food in her backpack too), then re-checked everything. Took extra batteries from shelf and put them into backpack too next to maglight (it's a useful tool to have!). She would go to forest anyway.
She hummed 'Alone in heaven' while driving towards car stop near forest she'd looked up from maps for this weekend. It was several hours away and she'd probably be wiser if she camped over night rather than trying to do anything during the night. She'd decide what she'd do when she got there. There was no point being prepared if she wasn't ready to try out new things because of her preparedness. Weather was nice and there were only few clouds overhead. According to weather forecast there wouldn't be rain or even excessive wind so weekend promised to be nice for a little camping trip.
There weren't many campers around here it seemed when she parked her car.
Eva took her gear with her and started walking. It took about an hour to get to place she hadn't seen before on her trips (she hadn't been here often - which was why she chose this place in the first place) and then she took a road less travelled by. Forest seemed to thicken as path sloped downwards. Air smelled good and sounds of civilization were soon only a memory.
Twilight approached as she came down to a small pond. Gently sloped ground near pond seemed like it was a good place to camp so she stopped thinking what Anthony was missing while toiling away at work while setting up a tent. She didn't really feel like cooking or setting fire tonight so she took some powdered meal replacements she had with her always and mixed them in one of her bottles. Not that meal replacements were that tasty - some of them made her think that she was drinking mud with added artificial flavouring and her stomach really crumbled several weeks after if she ate them for a week in a row (something she wouldn't recommend to anyone else!). Nonetheless they made her feel she was a slightly more free to do as she pleased as she didn't need to prepare food if she didn't feel like it.
She put her trash into its own compartment in her backpack carefully and washed her bottle with environmentally friendly soap. It's not as if she wanted to leave signs where she had been and she felt she was responsible for environment if she went camping.
Night was uneventful, but morning was different. She was quite certain she had set up her camp in different place than where she found herself. There certainly was a body of water next to her tent and she was in the forest, but trees weren't evergreen like they had been in the evening, but deciduous.
She looked around walking about 100 meters in every direction(, but not to pond though if you were wondering) and the conclusion was quite firm. She wasn't anywhere near where she thought she had been.
What does Eva do next?
