Soccer warm-up: conditioning with the bros

Daphne sent an email earlier today, saying that practice is starting half an hour late, asking everyone to get warmed up first. After changing into your kit, you head over to the gym, wanting to get a good warm-up in before practice. You spot the rest of the guys on your team pounding iron, everyone chasing or maintaining a chiseled physique. Charlie, seeing you arrive, reracks his weights and gestures to you. You walk over, and he points at Jack. The guy’s doing bicep curls in the mirror, big headphones on isolating any noise and conversation.

“The prick’s still going after the twins,” Charlie whispers. “We don’t like that one bit.”

“No we don’t,” you agree. “You guys came up with a plan to get him?”

“Nothing fancy,” he says. “We’re going to get him talking and then nudge him a bit. Dangle some bait in front of him, so to speak. I figure that it won’t take long before he says some stuff that’ll sour the twins off him.”

“I’m surprised he hasn’t done that on his own,” you chuckle.

“Javier’s going to kick it off, and I’m going to join him in a sec,” he says. “Can you secretly film it?”

“On it, chief,” you smile.

You set up by the rack that Charlie was using, setting your phone at an angle so that it gets a clean shot of Jack. You hit record and Charlie gives Javier a nod. Your teammate approaches Jack as you start a set of bench presses. Javier claps Jack on the shoulder, and the self-obsessed freshman glares at him.

“Hey Jack, I hear you’re good with the ladies. I want to get your advice on something.”

“What?” Jack says, twenty decibels too loud. He sets down his weights and takes off his headphones. “I’m working out my biceps. What did you say?”

Javier stifles a laugh, saying: “All I said was that you’re good with the ladies, so bro, I need your advice on something.”

Jack grins, puffing out his chest.

“Got girl problems? I’m the man you’re looking for.”

“So I’ve been eyeing up the twins,” Javier says, “and they’re pretty good looking, yeah?”

“Sexier than buttered toast,” Jack says. He makes a weird licking motion over his palm. Gross.

“What do you think a guy’s got to do to get with one of them?” Javier asks. He looks off to the side and gives the camera a sly wink.

“Three things,” Jack says, holding up that many fingers. “First, you’ve got to have the looks. Which I’ve got in abundance.” He ticks down a finger and flexes, showing off his impressive physique, and the other guys around the room roll their eyes. But you’re worried, because there’s no doubt that Jack looks good, and if anything could sway Katie and Khloe… “Second, you’ve got to have the charm. You’re looking at Exhibit A right here.” He sticks his tongue out between two fingers and rubs it up and down, and again, the guys roll their eyes, but you’re not convinced. Somehow, bizarrely, Jack manages to sell the look. “Third, it doesn’t matter what you do, because I’ve already got them in the bag. Both of them.”

“O-hoh, big man, wanting both,” Jason says, finishing off his deadlift.

“And you’ve fucked them already?” Charlie asks, daring him to lie.

“It’s a matter of time,” Jack smirks.

“So you’re just all talk and no game,” Jason says, slouching back against the mirror.

“Nah. I’m not stressed, because I know they’re going to come to me soon,” Jack smiles cooly. “They won’t be able to resist me.”

“Well shit, I better back off then,” Javier says, raising his hands. “Sounds like you’ve had this whole thing planned out.”

“I play it by ear,” Jack laughs. “I’m not some loser who has to stutter his script in front of the girls. I know what I’m doing.”

Just crack, you think to yourself. He’s said some off-putting things, but nothing incriminating…

“You wound me,” Javier says, putting a hand over his heart. “Please don’t tell me… you’re really going to take them both from me? What could you even do, why not leave one for me?”

“I need them both to do the things that you could only dream of,” Jack laughs. Javier’s a great actor, and he looks just pained enough that Jack keeps talking, wanting to drive the nail into the Hispanic guy’s coffin. “Here’s how I’m going to do it. Javier mutters a “wow” under his breath, meeting ‘horrified’ eyes with the other guys in the room. Jack dusts off his hands, satisfied with the reaction he drew, and begins to leisurely pick up his weights again.

“Well shit,” Charlie says, running his hands through his hair. “You don’t have to do the girls dirty like that. Or, Javier, spare a thought for the man will you?”

“My pleasure,” Jack says, smiling at Javier, whose face twitches.

“Aw, is the little boy going to cry?” Jack continues taunting.

But you know that Javier’s trying to hold back laughter, and the gasp he lets out confirms it, but Jack takes that for the beginnings of a sob, and he makes crying motions with his hands, laughing to himself all the while.

This is the shit that you’ve been looking for. There’s no way the twins will want anything to do with Jack after they see this.
