Chapter 9
by zewesman
“So, what? You want to take Chris to this school?” asked Gerald, well aware of where this conversation was going.
Snacks and Introductions
One Week Later
“It’s the big day, sweetie! Aren’t you excited?!” asked Anna as her son ate breakfast with the family at their table.
“Of course, mom. I get to start at Xavier’s School and be around other mutants. It’s gonna be crazy to meet and see what other powers mutants have,” Chris answered his mother.
“Now, now Anna, let the boy eat his breakfast,” Gerald told his wife. “He has a big day ahead of him of moving all his crap out of his room!” said the father with a smirk on his face.
“Gerald!” said Anna as she gave her husband a soft slap on the arm. “You are most certainly going to help him with that!” ordered the matriarch of the house. “There’s no way he can get some of that stuff down the stairs by himself!” she informed her husband.
“Of course, dear. It’ll be some great father-son bonding time before he moves off to be his own man,” said Gerald, clearly proud of the words he said.
“Some wise words, Gerald. It’s about time you said some,” Anna said with a smile of her own on her face.
“Oh snap! Look at mom busting out the burns! Guess she finally picked something up from you, dad,” Chris told his dad.
“Hahaha. Yeah, it happens every once in a while. Your mother is far too loving to normally say things like that. But she’ll happily say them to me,” Gerald informed his son.
“You know I love the both of you dearly,” Anna told the two most important men in her life.
“Of course, mom,” Chris answered.
“Right back at cha, baby,” replied the husband. Chris and Anna both let out a laugh at Gerald’s amusing reply.
“Well, it’s almost time for our guests! I’ll get these dishes cleaned up and some snacks put out for our guests. Chris, go clean your room before they get here!” Anna ordered her son.
“But why, mom? It’s just gonna be a mess when we move everything anyway,” pointed out Chris. Before his mother could answer, however, Gerald quickly intervened to save his son.
“Chris, you heard your mother. Go clean your room, you still want to look presentable to your new roommates,” Gerald told his son. Chris, let out a sigh and got up from the table.
“Yeah, you two make a good point. I’ll go clean my room before they show up,” Chris said as he put his dirty dishes into the sink and headed up the stairs. Luckily, Chris’ room was not too bad. There were some dirty clothes around the general area of his clothes hamper and maybe some random fast food holders lying around various parts of his room. “Well, let’s get this all cleaned up…” he said as he began the task of tidying up the room.
One Hour Later
Ding dong!
“Oh! That must be them!” a nervous Anna announced to her family. Chris and his father looked up from their game of cards as Anna moved over to the door to open it. There, she saw four young people standing in front of her.
“Hi, Anna!” Jean said happily as she waved with a giant smile on her face.
“Jean, dear! You look as beautiful as ever!” she said as she brought the girl in for a hug. “Now, come in, all of you! I have drinks and snacks for everyone! You can all have a little something before you all get hard to work!” she said in a motherly tone as she gestured for the group to come in.
“I like her,” said the largest of the group, in a slight Russian accent.
“Like, she is so nice. Can she be School’s housemother instead of Storm?” asked the young girl that accompanied the group.
“Come on now, Kitty. Ororo may be strict, but she’s just as caring as this woman is,” said the other man in the group, who wore a pair of ruby-red sunglasses, as he walked through the door into the house.
“Like, she never made us snacks…” Kitty said under her breath as she crossed her arms and followed the man. The group of four met Chris and his father in the living room as Anna returned from the kitchen with a tray of snacks and drinks for everyone. Once everyone had some snacks and drinks, Jean stood up to begin introductions.
“Anna, Gerald, Chris, I would like you to meet some people. First,” she said as she pointed to the man in the sunglasses, “this is Scott, my husband,” she informed everyone.
“It is a pleasure to meet you all. Jean has said great things about all of you,” he told them.
“Next, we have Kitty. She is a student who will be going to classes with Chris. With your permission, I’d like her to take a few pictures of the move. She assures me it will look good on our social media pages,” Jean told the group.
“We, like, want to show everyone that Xavier’s school is a great place for parents’ kids,” Kitty informed them.
“I see no harm in it. I know it has helped at my workplace,” Gerald said.
“Yeah, the same is true at my job. But shouldn’t your social media also help potential students join as well?” asked a curious Anna.
“Oh, well that is totally easy to do, Mrs. Johnson! Most guys immediately want to come when we hear we have a pool and the girls like to sunbathe there. Their peabrains are easy to convince!” she said with a giggle.
“Oh my!” gasped Anna at the directness of Kitty’s answer.
“Come now, Kitty. Not all men are controlled by their base desires,” countered the tallest of the group.
“Like don’t I know it,” Kitty said with what seemed to be a bit of sadness and annoyance in her voice. “As for the girls, most tend to like the various scholastic options and potential networking available since Professors Xavier and McCoy have a lot of connections in the academic world. Plus, Mr. Worthington is, like, totally a billionaire who can buy us any job we want!” she said with a bit of excitement.
“Didn’t we tell him to stop doing that?” asked an annoyed Scott.
“We did. We’ll have to have a conversation with him when we get back,” a very curt Jean told her husband.
“Like, whoops…” was all Kitty could say as she realized she spilt a secret she should not have. She sunk into her seat as if she wished she could turn invisible.
“Anyways, let us move on to our final guest. He is Piotr. He is probably one of the nicest, gentlest, and caring people I know. He’ll be the muscle for the moving!” Jean said with a smile.
“It is a pleasure to meet you all,” he said, his Russian accent prominent but not detrimental to what he was saying. “I will help in any way I can,” he told the group.
“Can’t help yourself tho…” Kitty said under her breath, which Chris did hear thanks to being closest to her. Her saying that piqued his interest.
*Hmm. Wonder what that is about? Maybe I should look into it.* thought Chris as he greeted everyone.
