Smoothly, thankfully

Despite your misgivings, Eothai does prove to be rather polite and reasonable most of the time, and your classmates gravitate towards this foreign stranger who exudes elegance and confidence, flawlessly chatting with them and answering their every question.

Seeing no problem thus far, you simply rest your head on your arm and gaze out the window.

"Hey, Torae-chan."

You glance at Kaho who sat in front of you.

"Mm."

"Not going to talk to the new guy? He seems interesting," Kaho asked.

"Nah, no need," You replied.

"Still nursing a grudge over yesterday?" She inquired.

"Not really; you know I'm not one to just engage in conversation," You answered.

"That's true; you often like to keep to yourself," Kaho nodded in agreement, "But don't you want to get to know him more? I mean, it's not everyday you see such a guy here in school."

"Give it up, Kaho," Heiji interjected, "You know him well enough by now."

"Mm. Okay," Kaho relented.

As classes started, Eothai displayed great academic acumen and flawlessly answered every question asked by the teachers, and some of the teachers themselves were taken in by his handsomeness as evidenced by the dazed stares they flashed him before composing themselves. And yet, it became apparent that behind a mask of calm and compusure, he was utterly disinterested in the classes themselves.

Which made you ponder: For what reason did he enroll into Gohanyama High?

And yet, there was one more surprise: He was looking at your Homeroom Teacher Chitose with a lovestruck look.

Great, one more headache to add...

As lunch break arrived, Kaho and Heiji went to buy food for you three, and so you decided to approach Eothai and ask him, "Eothai, you have a few minutes?"

"I certainly do," Eothai answered, "Come to ask more about me?"

"Sort of," You shrugged, "We'll talk at the rooftop."

"As you wish."

"So, why exactly come here to school?" You questioned him, "I can't imagine a wise and long-lived Elf like you needs to go through school again except for the novel experience."

In most anime, manga or dramas, the school rooftop tended to be a popular hangout spot during lunch or break time, and offered a sanctuary from the stress of schoolwork most days. In Gohanyama High, that was not so much the case since there were more popular hangout spots like the library and the cafeteria, and few liked to use it during the hot summer. For you, it gave you the privacy you needed.

"Hmph, as if I need to explain to you," Eothai huffed, "However, since you are so curious, I'll indulge you; I'm here to spy on you."

"...That doesn't really answer my question, you know," You put forth.

"What? Need I spell it out for you?" Eothai bristled, "I am here to spy on you, so that I know exactly what is it that has Elwür working peacefully for you. You see, he's an assassin, a killer, and it is my duty to bring him down. Surely you cannot abide such a dangerous person, docile as he seems?"

"That's my business, not yours," You retort, "And what I meant to ask is: Why school? Can't you simply apply for a job nearby, if that's the case? You certainly look as if you could handle full-time work."

"You said it's not my business prying into your affairs, so I return those words to you," Eothai countered, "So there."

"Alright then," You sighed, "Just don't be a pain in the ass and we'll get along fine, alright?"

"If you say so," Eothai acceeded.

"By the way, student-teacher relationships are forbidden," You call out to him, just as you enter through the door.

Snickering to yourself, you barely hear Eothai's hot reply: "I am not pursuing what you imply!"

You could already imagine him furiously blushing.

When you return to the classroom, you find that Kaho and Heiji just arrived at the classroom, having bought sandwiches and your favourite chocolate milk.

"Whew, wasn't easy beating the crowd, but we made it," Heiji remarked, "By the way, they said you went to the rooftop with Eothai. Thought you weren't interested in the new guy?"

"Still am not, just wanted to get a few answers from him," You contended.
