Slime Hunt

After leaving the armory, I followed Sofia towards the edge of the city. “What was that all about?” I asked.

“I’ve, uh, had a few parties before you...” she said sadly.

“Looks like they didn’t turn out. What happened?” I asked, worried for my eyebrows.

“They didn’t mix very well with my fire magic,” she said nervously. “B-but you don’t have anything to worry about! I’ve gotten the hang of it more since then, your eyebrows are safe with me!”

We left the town gate, and started heading East. After about an hour of walking we made it to the location specified in the request. At some plains next to what Sofia called the Rhean Woods, we found the Blue Slime in question.

“Easy. Time to show off and take out this trash mob!” I drew my sword and charged.

“Trash mob? Wait!” Sofia shouted after me, “Slimes are extremely dangerous!”

I slashed through the slime several times, cutting it into pieces. Too easy. I sheathed my sword and turned back to Sofia...who was running at me, yelling.

“Look out!” she shouted, tackling me to the side, landing on top of me. Looking up, I saw her hat had fallen off. Also, I could feel her boobs against my chest. Score. “Slimes can regenerate and they can disintegrate things they come into contact with. Look!”

Sure enough, the slime had reformed to its original shape, and had started coming after us, moving over Sofia’s hat, disintegrating it in a matter of seconds. Shit. Video games have failed me.

“Run!” I shouted, scrambling to my feet and pulling Sofia along with me by the hand. We ducked behind a tree. “How the hell do you kill a slime if you can’t cut it?”

“Magic. Just watch,” Sofia said, stepping out from behind the tree. She pointed her staff at the slime and the crystal at the tip began to glow. “Raging heat burns within my veins, grant form to my fury, Flare!”

A fireball about the size of a flaming basketball shot out from the tip of her staff, landing right in front of the slime, exploding into flames that engulfed the monster. After a few seconds of exposure, the slime began to shrink and dissipate, until there was only a small blue rock left in its place.

“That was amazing Sofia! You took it out in one shot!” I said. The pyromancer blushed, clearly not used to praise.

“Thank you. It’s the least I could do to repay you for letting me join you.” She reached down and picked up the blue stone, handing it to me. “This is the slime’s core. It should be all the proof we need to finish the request.”

“Oh shit.” The flames from the flare spell hadn’t gone out yet. In fact they had spread to the nearby tree, and threatened to spread to the rest of the forest. “Fire!”

“Oh no...not again...” Sofia pouted.

“Again? What do you mean? Put it out!” I said, starting to panic.

“I...can’t,” she said.

“What the hell!” I shouted. Looking for something to smother the flames with, I grabbed her cloak, tearing it off from around her shoulders. She squealed, dropping to her knees and covering her chest. Before the flames could spread any further, I smothered the flames with her cloak.

“My cloak!” She complained.

“You can get another with the reward money! If these woods burned down, there’s no way we’d get a reward!” I yelled.

“...my cloak...”
