Sleeping?

Sam looked thoughtfully at Jake. "I wonder what happens when you go to sleep? You probably can't sleep right now though. Oh! You've got some sleeping pills, though, don't you?"

He did indeed. He debated whether to take them, though. He was worried about the **** state it might leave Sam in. She spoke up.

"Look, I don't love the idea of you being **** while we're tethered together like this, but you've gotta sleep sometime. Why not do it now? Neither of us have anywhere to be, so we can test it safely."

He had to admit she made some good points. "Ok, let me grab the pills."

She smiled gratefully. "Thank you for seeing my reasoning. The few times we've disagreed have been really grating, like I can feel my opinions being bent into a different shape against my will."

He chose to ignore the disturbing implications and went to get the pills.

"Ok, this is Lunesta. It tends to work pretty fast, so I'll probably be out in a few minutes."

There was a pretty good chance they'd both be out, but she figured that outcome itself would teach them something. Either way she'd be grateful for a break.

He dry-swallowed the pills and she felt a weird little irritation. Probably the scratch of the pills going down his throat. "Why don't you take them with water?" As soon as she asked, she knew it was a stupid question. Dry swallowing was easier. Jake told her as much. He turned off the lights.

After about thirty seconds, a wave of dizziness hit Sam. "Oof, I'm guessing they just kicked in?" Jake yawned and nodded.

Sam thought it would be best to get out of his room while he fell asleep, then she thought better of it. Best to know when he was fully asleep. She blinked her eyes as he crawled under the covers. "You asleep yet?"

"You tell me." he slurred. She wasn't sleepy, but her thoughts did feel weird and slow. She sat in the darkness for a second, trying to keep the room from spinning. She heard a snore from under the sheets.
