It’s been an exhausting night. That date at the drive-in theater took a heck of a lot out of you. The hour is late, and you still have a mountain of fresh homework to plow through. There’s nothing to do but dive in.

Just as you’re wrapping up sometime past midnight, you get an email. It’s from the student council, the one that Dominic and Tatiana are always going on about in the hall meetings. You open it up, quickly reading the body of the message:

Dear Alex,

We hope the start of your semester is going well! As you may know, we’re in charge of planning the Fall Fling. This year, we’ve got a pretty big headliner for the event: Scottish House Mafia! We’re really pumped about it.

Unfortunately, our opening act had to cancel at the last minute. We need someone who can fill the slot ASAP. We heard that you’ve got some experience doing this kind of thing, and thought it would be cool to spotlight some school talent. Would you be interested in performing? The event will be on the Thursday the week after next.

Please let us know by midnight tomorrow. More details, including payment and logistics, are attached.

Oh shit. This could be big. But the hour is late, and you’re not in any state of mind to be making important decisions right now. You forward the email to your agent, Bruno, and decide to leave the choice for tomorrow.

After that, you manage to get yourself to the toilet to go through your pre-sleep routine, and then you crash in bed, well and truly tired. It’s been a long night. You sleep deeply, unaware of the events that are coming for you tomorrow morning…
