Sitting together in silence

We sat there side by side, holding each other. Bound together by a shared experience, neither of us could be judgmental of the other. It was Jessica who broke the silence.

"It won't happen again," she said firmly. Having made similar determinations before myself I wasn't certain if I believed her, but I didn't say that.

"It's not all bad," I said instead. "Todd will be pleasantly surprised with his bride's skills in bed."

"You really think I can get married now?"

"Of course!"

Drying her tears, Jessica smiled at me. She needed to believe that right now, so did I. We spent the rest of the Sunday together, pretending everything was normal. Talking about nothing, just being friends.

Night came and I had to take off my soiled pants and go to bed. Finally alone with my thoughts, I couldn't hide from myself any longer. I had cheated on Jamie, and I had liked it. Brandon had given me the best sex of my life. I wasn't certain I could resist him if he wanted me again. I wasn't certain I wanted to.
