Chapter 73 by Roar of The Winning Punch Roar of The Winning Punch

What's next?

Showdown in the cathedral

Shit.

"Celeste." I said, drawing my dagger from it's holster.

"What in the world?" Melli stood next to me, gawking at the sight slowly pooling into the cathedral.

Celeste was floating inside a giant blob of jello, like a bug suspended in amber. It was a slime... a big smile. I moved forward sluggishly, filling the doorframe, and growing in volume as it hit the empty air of the cathedral. It had to be 18 feet tall, and just as wide.

Celeste was funny, there was no denying that.

Killing me with the very thing I'd asked her about the day before? Hilarious!

The vampire had no patience for banter or the fated encounter between good and evil. He shot up from his throne, and a moment later was behind Celeste, leaping for her back.

So fast!

I'd done well to avoid a fight with him when he was alive.

Celeste however had no reason to fear. The vampire lunged forward, and it's arms sunk into the gel of the slime, and sunk in slowly. There was a sickening sizzline sound, and smoke and shadows billowed up from behind Celeste, I don't know quite what happened, but I never saw the vampire again. I can only assume the slime dissolved his shadowy form whole.

What a rough time that guy's had huh? He's gotten punked twice now.

"Stay away from it!" I warned, already taking a step back for the boss door.

"Ice spike!" Sapphire launched forward and held up staff up. A massive pillar of ice erupted from the ground underneath the slime. It penetrated easily through the material and hit Celeste dead in her chest. The pillar continued erupted upward, and carried her along with it, eventually penetrating out the other side of the slime, and slamming Celeste into the ceiling, pinning her there with ice. It would give killed any other person, but her bizarre grey skin, wasn't even scratched, she was just held there, and already the slime was swelling upwards to meet her.

That was impressive.

The slime thought so too and launched a tendril towards Sapphire.

Melli acted next, throwing herself in front of Sapphire. "Orb of flame!" The burst of flame rushed forward and met the tendrils. The two met but the torrent of slime was easily overcome by the e heat and vigor of my witche's orb. It evaporated at that the touch, and the orb hurdled forward into the slame.

Celeste smelled a threat and brought her hand down on the ice spike, and easily shattered it from underneath her. She then rolled and fell into the slime's form, letting it absorb her, as the orb of fire hit the mass of the creature and exploded.

The result were a incredible a burst of heat, and light, and when it faded a huge satisfying chunk of the slime was gone, a proper crater.

"Slimes are weak against fire!" I said, realizing that I had knowledge I'd forgotten.

"Got it!" Melli raised her staff and sent another orb of fire at the slime.

I then noticed Celeste working on something within the slime. She had these potions suspended in it's form, near the core of the thing where she dwelled. They floated around her like a solar system. She took one, and uncorked it. Then like a vaccine surging through the immune system of a being, a redness rushed through the slime moving to every inch of the creature. The slime changed from a sickly green to a vibrant glowing red, that radiated heat like an oven.

The purpose of this change became clear after Melli's second orb detonated against the creature. After the light and smoke cleared, it was standing there unharmed. Now a creature of fire itself.

"No fair." Melli growled, clutching her staff nervously.

The slime shot out another tendril, it grabbed hold of a goblin, dooming him to a screaming agonizing ****. It then whipped it's arm towards me Melli and Sapphire.

"Ice Spike!" Sapphire raised her hands and another spike rose from the ground. She timed it just right to where the spike ripped through the tendril severing it, even as the spike itself explosively converted into steam. The limb went pinwheeling behind us. Still alive it started streaking towards us like a snake, but the goblins swarmed it and started hacking it apart with their weapons until it was a pile of smoldering protoplasm.

As this was happening the slime was also fighting off the clockwork soldiers who slashed at it with impossibly powerful limbs. One of the constructs sought to end the fight entirely and show a large metal bold directly at Celeste within the ooze. It penetrated easily but was eventually slowed then stopped within the slime before it could reach her. The slime then moved the bolt into the top of one of it’s tendrils and crammed in to the workings of one of the constructs. It wedges itself between the gears and the machine collapsed in on itself with the horrid shrieking of metal.

She soon proved that she didn’t need a tool to disable the soilders. She simply overwhelmed another construct with a torrent of slime. Its superheated mass oozed between every gear and spring until all the metal was clogged, and warped beyond use.

Only one left.

A new tendril struck at me, and I surprised myself of ducking under it. I’d nearly forgotten about Brown’s blessing, but I was twice as fast and strong as I normally was.

What a waste, because a mastermind has no need for brawn. I had brains!

I’d already figured this game out!

“Melli get ready!” I coiled my muscles and reached into my bag. With a flick I tossed a bottle of lust draft through the air and into the slime. It absorbed the bottle readily. “Solider! Shoot the bottle!”

I should really get more robot servants. There was no hesitation, it raised its arm and shot the bottle easily. My pink contents spilled into the slime and just as it had with the fire potion, the slime began to incorporate the potion into itself . Soon the heat from the slime died down, and the whole sludge was fluorescent pink.

Celeste was going to start having some interesting feels in a few moments.

If there was anything left.

“Melli now!”

“Flame orb!” The ball of fire shot for and once more exploded against the thing evaporating great swaths of the slime.

Melli sure had grown since we first met. That was her third cast of the spell and she didn’t even look tired. That was well beyond her back when we were the ones attacking the dungeon.

Once the smoke cleared it was a glorious sight. The massive ball of smile that filled the cathedral was gone. Reduced to a thick puddle around her feet, and a dripping shawl or cloak that hung off her shoulders and dripped down her arms.

“Give up yet?” I said cockily.

Dont look at me like that! I just took down a two story slime, I deserved my pride!

She smiled at me, and again like when I first met her I got the feeling of being prey. “I apologize, were we fighting? It’s traditional for warriors to probe one another before a fight begins, no? We were gathering data before the first bout were we not?”

I gulped and held my sword ready.

“Ah, my mistake.” She took a stance of her own. “Then come, let’s fight!”

What's next?
