In a blink of an eye, the pistol holstered under your shoulders is in your hands. You pull the trigger before the thing has even an instant to react, hosing it with a long burst of automatic fire as your ammunition display counts down.

It roars and pounces towards you, a huge, black furred wolf-like humanoid beast, bullets bouncing from its hardened hide, only drawing blood in thin-skinned locations. You roll to the side as it approaches, firing until the magazine is empty before moving in with a whirling flurry of strikes, faster than it can effectively block.

This thing's fucking huge!

The brawl covers ten meters back into the forest in a matter of seconds, where the creature breaks and runs, realising it has lost. You consider giving chase for a moment, but the chill once again sets into your bones. You quickly return to the ranger cabin, locking the door and barring it with the rotten remains of a sofa, after which you collapse into a corner, clutching your knees and breathing quickly, trying to calm yourself down.

With the confidence boost of besting the monster, it doesn't take you long to get to sleep, despite your dangerous surroundings.
