Chapter 9 by TheDespaxas TheDespaxas

Earning your bacon.

Shelving books can wait, you have research to do.

Dressed in a more library friendly clothes you have started your shift at the library.

The thing is that putting books back on shelves following Dewey's decimal classification doesn't seem very exciting after all that happened to you and all the questions you have.

You let the returned books stack up on the cart as you log into the librarian computer to check the classes you missed and dig a little Intel on all you learned.

Mrs Klum was only a second rate professor with a bad temper and little published work until a little while ago. Less than a year ago she partnered with an obscure think tank/lobbying group named Ardent Matters. The influx of cash and free media allowed the creation and quick growth of ASPIC.

A check on the Sentinel, your favorite blog about rumors on Cape heroes tells you that the Victorious Virtue bill is very unpopular in the community and that key members have called for a Pacific protest against this censorship by gathering in number and in costume in front of City Hall in two days at noon.

You can't see where the support for the bill came from, ASPIC while vocal is still only a fringe group and there shouldn't be a majority to get this passed at the municipal Council.

Not much else about Ardent Matters, a conservative group that appeared out of nowhere less than two years ago. It's owner Patricia Gerard is a rich reclusive widow from an oil magnate. No photos, no interviews.

You didn't miss much in class, some boring math, some slut shaming from Mrs Klum and a few things you can read in the manual for the rest of the day.

Doing research on the net is the most you can do. While the bruises is fading, Lady Lamprey's kisses are still denying you the use of your powers despite the 6 hours being long past. You hope the experience didn't deprive you of them forever.

You only wish there was something that could boost your powers and recharge your batteries.

Batteries made you think of a dildo and that made you think of Neal Pearson your neighbor. Without powers there can be no emergencies, you could ask him out and have all the night with him.

You wish you had his cell phone number but you never got around to ask him.

That's decided, with all that happened you deserve a break. Tonight you'll order a very large pizza and go see if Neal can bring the extra sausage.

You put your notes about the case on a thumb drive and push the heavy cart out of sight for the next shift girl to find.

Is Neal going to your pizza party?
