Shelve the books

Firstly you shelve claiming sleeping beauty on shelf C. You find the C stack, but the proper place for the book is up on a very high shelf. You find a rolling ladder and climb up to shelve it. As you come down you see Mr. Franklin watching from his couch, presumably admiring your legs.

Next you shelve disciplinary measures on shelf D. You find the D stack, and shelve the book in its proper place.

But you notice, on a high shelf, a small leather bound volume, that looks like a school ledger of some kind. You surreptitiously take it down from the shelf and slip it under your clothes, thinking you might want to take a look at it later.

Lastly you shelve The Image on shelf I. You find the I stack and slip the book into its appropriate place.

You spend the rest of your alloted work study hour shelving various books brought in by Mr. Franklin. A few other teachers have joined him in the front room - it seems the Library's sort of an unofficial social room for the Faculty in the downtime between classes and dinner. They don't bother concealing the fact that you're the topic of discussion.

“She just came in this afternoon, no notice at all,” one teacher says. “Not that that's an indicator of anything.”

“How is that possible?” another teacher asks. “There's no direct line into this domain. It takes weeks just to set up a transfer.”

“TRAINER fast tracked her. That's how. And if TRAINER wants a girl enrolled, she gets in the same day. TRAINER provides most of the processing power for this place.”

“Well, TRAINER's usually on the mark. She's a voluntary?”

“Yeah. She turned out nice, didn't she? Markley got lucky with this one - he's got her for Maid service.”

After a while, Mr. Franklin calls over to you. “Janet, you're done here. Go on to the cafeteria for dinner.” You take your leave and step out of the library.
