Chapter 3 by Vylriad Vylriad

So how does your Mother respond?

She wants the table set.

She pauses, and stops to consider the options, as if this were a serious dilemma. You fond this a tad weird, but wait for her answer regardless.

After a moment, she faces you and says, “I would rather you set the table all things considered. We can find something to watch later.”

Then, like magic, you find yourself pacing to collect the necessary utensils, plates, and napkins, but also grabbing the pitcher of orange juice from the fridge. Against your will. You had tried to stop yourself, but the message wasn’t going through to your limbs. You hadn’t even thought about the orange juice, yet your body went for it near instantly.

Before your mother could turn around, you already have the table set and ready for breakfast, almost… almost exactly like how your mother sets it. You’ve never done that before.

Now you’re freaked out, but you try to play it off. Just another day of feeling strange. Your mind wanders, however to that dream. What was it about? A rude voice, telling you something. What did it say? Think, man! Your morning depends on it! Well, not really, but you feel a sense of urgency might make you focus harder. Something-something-would-you-rather. Wait, that phrase. You asked your mother a would you rather question and she picked an option. You couldn’t refuse to follow through on her choice? Was that it? Anything that gets picked has to happen?

How do you confirm?
