Chapter 4 by kresreb kresreb

Where does Mrs. Bell go?

She visits the herbalist

The lingerie could wait, but a trip to see this herbalist that everyone was talking about could not. She'd been slowly hearing more and more about the miracle cures that this shopkeeper offered. Dry scalp? Cured. Need to get stains out of the carpet? Cleaned. Need your husband to last longer in bed? Cured. She thought it was all snake oil until her neighbor Patricia told her about a lust potion and how well it worked, she also swore by the herbalists sunscreen. She'd always criticized Patricia for being a very fastidious shopper, the kind that checks ten alternatives before buying anything, but that meant that anything she would buy usually turned out the way she intended it. When she pried her neighbor for more details, the woman would say no more than: You've got to go see her and try something for yourself.

Mrs. Bell had no reason for a lust potion or a stamina potion for her husband, her sex life was good. It may be less frequent than it used to but it was not bad by any means. The roads on the north outskirts of town were narrow, no shoulder and steep embankments on either side, she hated driving them. She wondered what sort of thing she could use a cure for: perhaps the herbalist had a cheap flea cure for Mal, her cat, or maybe an herbal barrier that could keep the neighbor cats from coming in through the pet door in the garage and stealing food. Patricia described it as a seedy cabin next to the lake, but she remembered the area being well maintained...a decade ago. She had no idea what to expect.

She almost missed the exit. The only signal that there _was _a turn off was a small wooden sign painted with a dull green reading: Herbalist -->. She shook her head at the camouflaged signage and turned onto an unkempt road full of potholes, dead pine needles, and brush. She was thankful for her SUV's 4 wheel drive as a safety measure more than a need. After what seemed like entirely too long on the narrow dirt road, she rounded a corner and saw the cabin. Patricia had blown it's supposed appearance out of proportion, it looked to be a completely normal timeshare next to a lake: rustic but still maintained. She was more surprised by the two cars parked in front of the shop than the building itself. She thought she recognized the sedan...

Who else is visiting the Herbalist?
