She tells Margaret about the sack

"Wait" Winlay told Sister Margaret as she pressed the cup to her lips again. "There's more, This may be even more important than what happened to me." Sister Margaret raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"You've had a busy day Sister." She took the cup back from Winlay and nodded for her to continue.

"Do you remember the initiate climbing the wall yesterday?" When Margaret nodded Winlay continued. "I know who it was, I found the bag."

"Oh." Margaret was speechless.

"It was under my roommate’s bed, I thought I knew Mika, but now I don't know anything at all." Sister Margaret waited for Winlay to continue. She was a good listener, Winlay noted to herself, a lot like her mother. Maybe that was why she thought it was a good idea to tell her instead of taking the bag directly to the convent authorities.

"The bag, the things it had in it - it wasn't anything you could guess." She paused again knowing that her speaking to Sister Margaret might be getting Mika into a lot of trouble. Of course it was probably too late for that anyway. "She had a Herald's robes and cord, and a scroll case. And also..." one final pause "... a knife. I think she's an assassin."

"An assassin?" Sister Margaret asked, her eyes opening in unmasked surprise. "People have knives without being assassins Sister." She reminded Winlay gently.

"Not a knife like this, Sister. It had straps to fasten it to her arm, and you have never seen a blade as sharp as this one. It could be a vault-tech blade." Winlay could see Margaret believed her now, but what would she say? What would she do?

More than ever Winlay wished she had just drunk the potion Sister Margaret had prepared for her, wished she had never seen the sac under Mika's bed. But she had, and now her life had become very complicated.

"I'm sorry Sister Margaret, I didn't know who else to talk to."
