Chapter 54 by landmaster1234 landmaster1234

Where does Hermione go after meeting Hagrid?

She starts to go put on robes that fit better

Hermione made her way into the castle. There was still another hour until dinner.

She had been somewhat disappointed that her last true friend at Hogwarts didn't want to be around her, but she was somewhat grateful. Hagrid, despite his faults, was a good man. He didn't want to just look at her naked, like so many other men might. He had turned around, giving her his old clothes.

She stepped through the entrance hall and made her way to the first-floor corridor. As she passed Dumbledore's empty frame, she had a thought.

"Professor Dumbledore?" She called.

Professor Dumbledore stepped into the frame. "Hello, Hermione, " he greeted, "you're wearing a different sort of robe today. What news do you have?"

"Well... I tried to modify my robes like you said, and they shrunk while I was wearing them, breaking completely!" Hermione exclaimed.

"Ah... How did you modify them, exactly?"

"I used the clothes refitting spell in A Homemaker's Guide to Magic."

"Ah... That explains it." Dumbledore sighed. "Did I not ask you to sew it together? To simply conjure the needed fabric and then stitch it into place yourself?"

Hermione thought for a moment. Yes, she could remember Dumbledore saying that, but the not the reason for it.

"Well, yes, but-"

"And yet you decided to use magic..." Dumbledore sounded disappointed. For some reason, this hurt Hermione more than anything. "May I ask why?"

"Nobody had told me that using magic would make the robes shrink!" Hermione responded, looking shamefully at the ground.

"Oh." Dumbledore retorted. It was odd... A simple 'oh.' That didn't seem a usual response for Dumbledore... "I apologize, Hermione. That is something that is commonly known among those of us born into wizarding families. I didn't realize nobody had explained how merchants protect their wares and business. That was my mistake."

At least the apology seemed genuine. "Well..." Hermione responded. "You said there were books in the library about how muggles sew clothes?"

"I did," Dumbledore responded.

"Well, when I was there, I couldn't find them... I don't suppose you could tell me where they are?"

"Oh, yes!" Dumbledore quipped. "They're in a small section of the library. A bottom shelf in the North-eastern corner. I particularly suggest _Working Among Muggles _by Wilhelm Wigworthy. He was the same author behind Home Life and Social Habits of British Muggles," Dumbledore finished.

Hermione remembered that book from the one year she had taken Muggle Studies.

"Did you have any other questions?" Dumbledore asked.

"No professor. I'm just going to check that book out from the library, then head back up to Gryffindor Tower to get this robe off," Hermione replied. Having wrapped it around her twice, the robe was feeling rather warm.

"Very well, Hermione," Dumbledore said. "Just know that if you want a robe removed, the spell protecting you might just make it so." And with that last warning, Dumbledore stepped out of the frame again.

Does Hermione head straight to the library?
