Chapter 17
by Artican
Does Rogue face the thing or run?
She runs
With no powers, Rogue was simply prey to whatever was behind the tree. She bolted in the opposite direction!
Behind her, she could hear a belly rumbling growl and the sound of feet padding across the jungle floor. She high-stepped it away as fast as she could, but she was racing down the incline of the hill and suddenly lost her footing!
The X-woman went tumbling down the ravine, spinning and bumping into all the foliage. Mud and debris flew up in her wake as she watched the jungle spin around her. When she finally stopped, she didn’t know if her pursuer was still after her, so looked for a place to hide. She found an overgrowth of bushes that hid a shallow ditch large enough for her to fit into. She crawled in and waited, heart pounding in her chest.
All she could hear was rushing water nearby. There were no sounds of anything following after her. After a while, she pulled herself out of her hiding spot and carefully looked around. Whatever it was out there didn’t come down to check on her. Still vigilant of danger, she stayed low to the ground as she went to inspect the source of the rushing water.
Not too distant, she found a running river. She bent over and scooped a handful of the water to drink. It was refreshing and cool. She sighed and sat back, taking a look at her body. She was covered in dirt and grime from her fall. Thankfully it didn’t feel like she broke any bones, but she did feel sore. She splashed the water over her body and wiped herself down as best she could before following the river down. Her hope was that she would run across some sort of sign of civilization near the water source.
Rogue followed the river down to a cliff. Looking down, it created a waterfall that cascaded over several plateaus before reaching a small lake below. Rogue squinted her eyes. There appeared to be carved figures in the rocks in the pool of water. She climbed down to investigate.
At the base, she could get a better view of the rocks. They were definitely carved out in the form of people. Masterfully carved in fact. They were sculptures of the male anatomy in various poses, each one fully erect. Rogue wondered if it was some sort of fertility shrine. She reached out and ran her hand over the smooth cool marble, marveling at the craftsmanship out in the middle of nowhere. Her eyes were drawn to the highly detailed genitalia. It only helped to remind her that she never fully got off with Remy when he came to rescue her. That felt like a world away. Now she was in some unknown jungle full of unknown dangers with nothing to protect herself. The X-man in her told her to find shelter and provisions and get in contact with someone that could help, but another part of her begged to relieve the tension that has been building up inside her ever since she landed in Arcade’s prison.
Rogue bit her lower lip and traced the contour of the male anatomy.
Will Rogue take a break or continue searching?
