She manages to escape.

Athena’s in a tough spot...but she didn’t name herself after the Goddess of Wisdom and Battle for no reason.

She wraps her arms around her back and thrusts her abs upward into a bridge, pulling her legs up as she goes. The sudden, massive shift in momentum rolls her up and over you, and forces your arm loose from around her neck. You scramble to reacquire the hold, but it’s too late: she’s well and truly broken free.

Athena tries to switch from the side position to mount you in turn, but a quick jab to her ribs ends that idea, and she settles for just disengaging and getting ready for whatever’s next. You bite back a growl of frustration as the two of you climb to your feet.

“You’ll note that I said ‘damn near’ impossible to get out of,” the announcer verbally backtracks.

Athena allows herself a small smile at proving the prediction wrong, then turns to you as her expression settles back into serenity. “Well fought,” she tells you, “but it will take far more than that to subdue a Goddess of Olympus.”

Her tone makes it sound more like a statement of fact than a boast.

The encounter took quite a lot out of both of you, and even though it hasn’t been very long since you started the match, you doubt anyone would judge you for tagging out now. But you might try to prove yourself by staying in, too...
