Chapter 3 by Northfield

Where will she hide?

She keeps out of sight of the girls.

With a snap decision, Hannah decided to crawl along the grass to keep the foliage in between her and the group of girls.

"Around the corner here is fine," one of them said to the others, "Just as long as my mum can't see us."

They were heading right for the spot where Hannah had been hiding mere moments ago. Any relief she felt over having made the right call was soon overshadowed by the realisation that she now had to crawl even further into view of the appartements to keep out of view from the girls. With no real choice to avoid certain exposure, she continued. It felt surreal to look at the building in front of her, facing dozens of windows with nothing to cover herself but her own hands. She knew quite a few people who lived there. Former classmates, friends of her parents, and even a guy that had always had a crush on her. He would not have dared to dream of this exact scenario, and now it played out right outside his window and all he had to do was take a look. Hannah felt her face grow bright red at just the thought.

She could smell cigarette smoke in the air. The girls behind her must be trying to keep their smoking habit a secret. Somehow, Hannah believed that secret would not quite weigh up to her predicament if she were to be caught.

"Wait a sec," one of the girls said after a drag from her cigarette.

"What?"

No response. Hannah held her breath, and her breasts, in terrible anticipation.

"It's a key," the first girl said after a few seconds. She had walked onto the grass and spotted Hannahs key!

Hannah felt the desperation set in. What was she to do now? She could confront the girls and explain the situation, but they were younger than her and teen girls were not exactly known for their understanding, or to shy away from a juicy rumour. Soon, everyone would know of her streaking misadventure. She could hear the girls talk about what to do, too. One suggested to toss it back, much to Hannah's brief relief, but the idea was shot down. The girl who found the key said she would put it in the lobby instead, meaning the single entranceway to the appartement. That would mean Hannah would have to dash into the building itself!

Sure enough, the girls agreed on the latter and finished their cigarettes.

Will Hannah intervene?
