Chapter 9

Does she keep on the sari or do she and John get intimate?
She keeps it on for the rest of the evening
"Oh come on, Lauren," John chuckled. "After all that work putting it on? No, you can thank me later." His loins were less than thrilled with his answer and grumbled rebelliously. "Why don't you keep it on and get used to it a bit?"
Lauren smiled, "Fine, but if it falls off of me, it's your fault."
"Oh no, whatever shall I do with the guilt?" He chuckled as he went and gave her a long hug. The fabric felt so nice against his skin as he held her against him. He reluctantly let go and rested his hand on her shoulder. "Come on, let's go try to find something to watch."
Lauren followed John out of the room, and marveled at how the fabric felt. She looked down at herself, how immaculately the pleats were shaped and how consistently they lay across her. She felt both constrained and free at the same time, as the tight fabric felt amazing on her skin, but also gave her such freedom of movement all the same. Whenever the fabric draped across her chest began to slip, she instinctively adjusted it. When they got to the couch, she reached behind herself and kept the fabric hanging down her back and skirt in place as she sat down and leaned against John.
They snuggled together and Lauren grabbed the remote and began flipping through the options on Netflix. Subconsciously, she found herself going into the world movies and without so much as a second glance, she selected a movie and began to watch. It was a slow beginning--some story about a guy who wanted to open his own tailoring company--but it was fun to follow, and she admired how strong and determined his wife was.
John gently coughed after a while, and asked, "Hey Lauren, do you think you can turn on the subtitles?"
Lauren glanced up at him, confused. "What do you mean? I can turn up the volume, if you're having trouble hearing."
"No, it's just I don't understand Hindi," John said. "I didn't know you knew it. I mean, I knew you were an Indiophile, but still . . . " Lauren frowned and John noticed something. "Hey Lauren, did you get a bruise on your chest?"
"What?" She glanced down and noticed that the skin on her chest was a dark tan mark, but, to her shock, it seemed to grow under her very eyes. "What?!" She hopped to her feet and began to exam herself all over. Panic began to rise as she saw the tan color begin to extend down her arms and fingers. John hopped up and took a step back. He couldn't believe his eyes--Lauren's visible skin seemed to be changing, darkening, to a dark milk chocolate shade; it was spreading all from that spot on her chest, though now he couldn't have guessed where it had been.
"What is happening to me?!" Lauren gasped, not noticing her voice had a slight accent to it. John's eyes wandered up from the changes happening around her torso and gapped--her hair was changing. It also began to darken, becoming black and with some curl to it--it also seemed to grow in waves down to the middle of her back.
"I have no idea! The guy at the costume store said that it was one size fits all, and not to wear it for more than a day or tear the fabric. He never said anything about this!!"
"What the fuck was the name of the store?" Her Indian accent was becoming more pronounced. "You Mūrkha . . ."
"The Costume Store..." Lauren froze; she had heard the name before, from a reddit post she had seen. They were a mysterious chain, where it was rumored the costumes were more than just for appearances. It seemed that for once, Reddit mysteries hadn't been full of shit after all...it was reassuring that the people managed to post after. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and when she opened them, her transformation was complete.
"Lauren . . . ?" John gently reached out to her.
How much as Lauren changed? Does she have a new identity or is she still herself?
