Chapter 8 by TeratonArm

Who does the ghost target next?

She goes for all three on the stairs.

Betty floated around the trio, soaking in the charged tension in the air after she made sure the sword landed precisely where it needed to to take Eric's trousers. But now he'd gone and covered himself up again; his arms were bare now, true, but that hardly made up for covering his underthings. Betty felt that situation needed to be rectified immediately, though perhaps these other interlopers deserved some of her attention as well....

Carrie, to her credit, had stopped stealing glances over at Eric's lower half once she got readings from her machine. Betty wasn't going to pretend she knew how it worked, but it did seem to get louder when she came closer to it. She stopped in front of it, and slowly drifted to the right, watching as, with a delay, Carrie turned to follow her, looking down at some display in one hand while the other held the detector. Betty smiled; the girl was clever for having made something like that, but she was going to follow it right into trouble.

"There's something this way," Carrie said suddenly, and without waiting for her companions to follow, darted back through the door they'd entered the room from, going back to the main hall.

"Wait up!" Maria shouted, swiveling the camera back in her friends direction before running to catch up, with Eric reluctantly following, still feeling a chill on his bare legs. The two found their friend towards the top of the staircase, a giant set of steps in the front room that greeted visitors. Carrie looked annoyed, sweeping the detector all around and muttering to herself.

"It was just here...." she said, Maria and Eric only just able to hear as they walked up behind her, shaking her now-silent machine in frustration.

"Uh, you okay Carrie?" Maria said, unsure if she should have been recording her friend's frustration, but not actually putting down the camera. What none of them could have known was that Betty was closer to them than ever, having seeped into the wooden stairs underneath their feet! After centuries spent within it's walls, the house was a part of her just as much as her flesh and blood had once been, and she'd learned to do all sorts of interesting things with it...

It happened very quickly. The stairs all shifted, forming a perfectly smooth, steep surface, and the three people on it fell against it and slid down very quickly, letting out a set of screams. Of course, they didn't take everything with them, as Betty's spectral hands phased up through the wood and tucked certain items from each of them to get stuck between the wooden slats.

"What the fuck!" Maria shouted, only to shriek when she looked down at herself. Her camera was more or less fine, but her hoodie and t-shirt were gone, leaving her in a pink bra, one of the straps falling off her shoulder after the slide.

"Is everyone okay?" Carrie asked, only to have her voice break as she stared down at her long, bare legs and pale blue boyshorts, her skirt similarly disappeared into the stairs; perhaps more disheartening to her, her detector was now sitting at the top of the impassible ramp the stairs had become.

"We need to get the hell out of here!" Eric said, the worst off- the sweatshirt he'd wrapped around himself had been taken away, exposing his boxer-briefs once more, only now his shirt was gone too, leaving him in nothing but his underwear and footwear. He wasted no time though, grabbing at the front doors; but they wouldn't budge! Carrie picked herself up, meanwhile, and stared up at her detector, a determined shine in her eyes (never mind the wedgie she had going on down behind her.)

"There's definitely a ghost here," she said, more amazed than afraid. But before anyone could follow up or question her, there was a flash of lightning, and everything suddenly went dark.

Where do they find themselves when the lights come on? Are they still all together?
