Chapter 5 by takacube takacube

Go slightly younger or match his age?

She goes for a younger girl

Jenna felt that this was her chance to get in close to John, to make him realize that there was more productive things to do with his time than to be trapped by the claws of these tramps that had no future and were caught in his prospects. They hadn't been close since his father had passed away, that had been four years ago, and she felt the neglect she had foisted on him due to working had caused him to go astray, to be easily swayed by these bimbos in one form or another. She could protect him only if she was near him. During the evening it was easy enough to close the doors or to politely decline as his mother any interest.

School, though, was something she had to work on.

Jenna had taken the day off and after John had left early for school, followed him at a distance in her car until she reached the school parking lot. It was a simple enough endeavor to find a parking space but the idea of a middle-age woman sitting in a high school parking lot was not something she would readily explain away to an observant security guard or overzealous school administrator. She wasn't sure what the plan was, exactly, though she had decided to test out the rock in her palm. If it did what she thought, well, it wouldn't hurt to just see what John did and how to make sure things were safe for him.

A few voices attracted her attention and she glanced over to see a group of girls around John's age walking towards the school entrance. Several she recognized, the benefits of being on the PTA, though she didn't really feel like any of them were worth her notice. But, as she thought about it, the idea of blending in would be much easier to go with someone whose background she knew rather well (enough to pull off a temporary disguise, anyway). Taking a few moments to look closer, she picked out two of them as potentially good targets.

The first was Yvette Mitchell, 19, the daughter of the PTA president. She was a nice enough girl, Jenna supposed, and looked pretty enough for her age to make it as captain of the cheerleading squad three years in a row. Yvette had decent grades and was rather well spoken, her parents were upper-middle class and conducted themselves well enough to be considered "decent". Whether Yvette's mom knew about her dad's affair with the pastor's wife was another matter altogether, Jenna mused.

The second was Jennifer Hale, 16, the only child of her coworker Gale Hale (unfortunate circumstances in the name...) Gale was a working nut like her but that is where the good things ended. Gale was a slacker at work, doing what needed to be done but nothing else, and had spent a disproportionate amount of time at home with her family. If she wasn't so cynical, Jenna could almost see how that would be beneficial to them.

Jenna sat there for a moment and held the rock in her hand. She could wish to take over the lives of one of the girls, that would be a stretch but she could make any awkwardness disappear throughout the day. She also could become a sister, getting rid of the strangeness of taking over an unfamiliar life. But which girl?

Taking over a life or becoming a sister?
