Pain became her world. She concentrated, trying to recall a prayer to Agamor, but lances of agony shot through her brain and scattered the words.

Apotheosis comes. Give up control of yourself. Surrender and you will survive. Fight me and die.

Teysa struggled mightily to remain conscious. She could feel her body shutting down. Exhausted, she gave up. I cannot fight anymore. I'm sorry, Li.

She felt everything she was burning up in the heat of the venom. Her fears burned up like scraps of paper and blew away. Her worries and insecurities were next. She watched them crumple into bright sparks and disperse into the darkness, and she felt lighter. It seemed to go on and on, long past the point where she could bear it. She felt herself melting like iron in a forge. What's happening?
