Chapter 39 by BronzePlaceWriter BronzePlaceWriter

She didn't know what she could do to resist, but she would not surrender.

Susan felt her hands twist into fists, the weight of the collar at her throat made her wince. She wanted to give up so badly, wanted to surrender and have it be over. Fighting on seemed insane, impossible. What person could emerge from such a situation in any way the victor? Surrender was so easy, and fighting was so hard.

Yet, she felt her resolve hardening. Surrender held no peace for her. She would be tormented regardless, so why surrender? If nothing mattered, why not fight on? For her people, for her family, for all that had been lost in this stupid war, even if she could only deny Kanor that final victory, why shouldn't she struggle to do it? Maybe she could not change history, maybe she could not alter fate. But gods be damned, she could at least steal that final jewel from his crown! Even if he ended up having to kill her, or discard her, even if he **** her to fuck him, or made her have sex with every single person in the castle, she swore than and there, that she would. not. break.
